if honda is moving out of hero honda... hero honda becomes their primary challenger in the indian market.

and to supply engines to your biggest competitor? not a good business sense.

i am assuming that honda wants to go in for the kill. destroy hero honda in the two wheeler market here in india...

if they continue to supply them engines, i do not see any reason why they are even moving out of the deal.

unless of course, they now see bajaj as a serious thread to hero honda and think hero honda's shares are only going to go down in the future. so this is the time to move out.

from what i remember their existing deal lasts till 2014 and i think the talks between them were to extend it further.

if this latest report is true, honda might not extend it any further. hero would still have their tech till 2014. they would then have three years to develop their own tech or find a new partner.

the cool thing is that kinetic died after honda moved out. mahindra owns kinetic now. hero is a much bigger group and they could survive the honda's exit i suppose.

Penetrating Indian 2 wheeler market and chipping of Hero Honda's share in a 2-3yrs wont be easy.Best business tactic wud be to get money from Hero Honda for engines and then invest that money in Honda motors. I think that is what they will do.Because if they dont supply engine then Hero wud def get it from some other known company.. eventually it will be loss of business for Honda

hehe. i do not think honda would worry about that 'if' they are really planning to go for the kill.

look at it this way. if samsung knew that they could kill the Apple ipod in the mp3 market, would they still provide components to apple? i don't think so.

and apple knows that they cannot rely on competitors for components in their ipod/ipad/iPhone range (for ever!). so they are working hard to get involved in everything... (apple a4 processor is a good example).

they are now developing their own processor. they are buying companies and IP rights that could provide components for future devices... getting them manufactured is the easy task.

in any case, hero group is safe for the next couple of years. and we would find out what happens soon enough.
