I dunno if this has already been answered here, but I was unable to find a thread/post after several searches, so here goes...

Hardware :
ADSL Router - Huawei WA1003A
Desktop PC - running Windows XP Pro connected through RJ45
Laptop - HP Pavilion running Vista Premium connected through Wireless

IP Settings
ADSL Router - 192.168.1.1
Desktop PC - 192.168.1.33
Laptop - 192.168.1.34

File Sharing enabled on both systems
Preferred DNS set to 192.168.1.1 on both systems
Secondary DNS set to BSNL servers
Workgroup name common on both systems

And yet I'm not able to make a local connection between my laptop and PC to share folders or transfer files b'ween.

When I the view the connection map in my laptop Network centre, I see my PC in the map, but when I click on the icon get a "inaccessible.contact blah blah" error.

So my question is: is it possible to make the two systems talk to each other with the existing set-up or is it just an exercise in futilty ?

Any help or links to solutions would be highly appreciated Thanks

check if file and printer sharing is enabled on both the computers

Yeah, P&F sharing is enabled on both

set both the DNS of the BSNL servers...192.168.1.1 should be the gateway in both...

if this setup doesn't work, just change the setting to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and it should work...enjoy!!!

My home network is setup in similar manner.You can try these steps:1.Try accessing systems with IP instead of name E.g. (Start menu -> Run -> \\192.168.1.33\)2.If that does not work, Open a command window on laptop and see if you can connect to these ports:137, 138, and 139 In command window run this command : telnet 192.168.1.33 137If you NO error message and command just keeps waiting then it means you can connect to these ports.Let us know how it goes.

1. Use local IP in other two systems which are not connected to net.2. To make them network with each other, install rootkit tools.3. to enable all the PCs to share the same net connection, you can use separate lan cards and configure them with global ip as you have done earlier.this will work.

netfreak>thanks for the tips. When you say similar, do you mean the same Hardware and Op systems ? From the Desktop, I tried accessing my laptop using its IP from Run, but I got a "Network Path Not Found" error. Surprisingly I'm able to ping 192.168.1.134 from the CMD prompt.I'm not able to use the telnet command in my laptop, cos it is defined as an unrecognozibale command. Maybe something to do with Vista security ? The funny thing is I can see my laptop in My NetWork Places>Entire Network>Workgroup, but when I click on my laptop, I get "inaccesible error". So I'm back to Square A. :-((peelpress> I didnt get what you were saying. Both my systems are connecting to the internet w/out any hassles. Its just that they are not connecting betwen each other. Any link to the rootkits tools ? Are you sure its safe. cos I see rootkit tools listed as malware.Thanks

I have a WiFi router and two PCs connected to this router (Desktop & Laptop).

I do not have Vista, so don't have first hand experience, but you can try these additional diagnostics:

1. Run telnet from Desktop [if it has non-Vista OS]
2. Create accounts in both PCs with identical username / password and login from those accounts in both PCs, just a guess but that might do away with "Unaccessible" thing
