Thanks once again. Here are some more queries:

1. Since the distance between the two computers is about 30 feet and the connecting cable has to pass partly through the exterior of the building, how feasible do you think a wired connection will be?

2. Is the cable really weatherproof?

3. What sort of cable should I ask for at the shop?

4. Assuming that there is a direct wired connection between the two computers (without a router), do you need to keep the host computer ON when the client computer wants to connect to the internet?

Regards.

Here are the answers to all your questions1. Although I have not tried it myself but by googling and seeing it in a schoo nearby I came to know that you have to put the portion exposed to sun and rain inside the white pvc pipe that is also used in electrical wiring.2.No, the cable is not totally weatherproof as stated above.3.The cable is known as RJ45 CAT5 crossover cable.4.Yes you do need to keep the host computer on when the client computer wants internet accessHope this will help you.:)

for 3 above. www. nullmodem.com/RJ-45.htm ( no space)
CAT5 Cable - Category 5 Ethernet Cables - CAT5 and CAT5e
The shop keeper will have this ask for RJ45 cable and will give you whatever length you want with the connectors at either end. Like telephone Rj11 ( two wires) this has 8 cables or 4 pairs. May cost around Rs 400 to Rs 800 for a 10 meter cable.
Add flexible Pvc tube at say @30/= per meter another Rs 300 .
