Not sure this is the right sub forum. Let me post a similar question. How relevant is PVR in days of torrents!

I think television is an integral part of latest happenings many use the internet to download torrents or watch videos on youtube only after getting to know Whats' the hype on television or has been missed out on TV. PVR solves this function itself with live viewing that can be recorded, it is also the second important household item in a recent survey conducted.

TV set itself has modernised to a greater level for example Sony Bravia provides a lot of function including USB connection, Wi-fi connectivity, DLNA technology you can also access sites like YouTube, Style.com etc However PVR function is not solved by TV and also in case of movies which do have long duration are not watched on youtube. PVR plays its vital role in such situations.

/// How Relevant is PVR in days of Youtube Not sure this is the right sub forum. Let me post a similar question. How relevant is PVR in days of torrents! ////There are no legal high definition downloads available anywhere. PVR for personal viewing is entirely legal. Youtube or Torrents give you only small pictures. The amount of data which PVR records is imuch higher and there is no comparison with Youtube or torrent.

You cant keep the recorded PVR stuffs for longer time, where as stuffs downloaded from torrents would always be there with u.

//// How Relevant is PVR in days of Youtube You cant keep the recorded PVR stuffs for longer time, where as stuffs downloaded from torrents would always be there with u. ///This is a software restricted issue. If you are thinking of Tata Sky PVR, this is true. However, an independent PVR enables you to keep the recordings for ever (occupying space) or enables you to transfer to a hard disk. You can also try a TV tuner which allows you to have the recordings in hard disk.In either of the cases, Still PVR is much better choice than YouTube or pirated torrent downloads.

Well, you don't get HD on TV too for that matter. Legality issues aside, BluRay rips are available for download online and the quality is outstanding.

Legality issues aside, BluRay rips are available for download online and the quality is outstanding. ////HD transmission is presently available with one DTH operator in India. And, Expect more to come within 3 to 6 months.BlueRay rips are illegal. That is what I said. The quality of ripped is sub-standard (though higher than a normal SD quality) and is of much smaller size (less pixels).
