As posted earlier, I got a new fibre connection yesterday & was given a Gx router. I had good experience with signal, speed etc with a ZTE F670L from another connection but the Gx/Genexis router is garbage in all terms & totally unusable.

I want to change it but not sure how to. I've contacted the installation guy but he said that Gx is all they have in stock & they've not received ZTE stock in over a year. I don't know if anything better than ZTE exists but that's what I'm aiming for, for now.

Can someone help me resolve this if you've similar experience?
1. Which brand is good to ask for a replacement? ZTE or any other?
2. Whom to contact, how to contact & what to say to get a replacement?

I don't plan on using bridge mode with my router or any serious custom settings (unless it's the last resort) other than having multiple SSIDs.

I get that but it's just not a reasonable option for me because I am going to be here only for around a month in a year and that to only for a few days at a stretch and because of that I don't think installing and having the hassle of setting up another router would be worth it as my parents would be the only ones using it.

If something goes wrong, I won't be available here to configure and resolve something easily. If I set everything up on Airtel router then at least I can call the Airtel guy to resolve the matter by going at home without having to explain my router setup and whether he knows how to manage that or not.

Majority of the folks are using the GX router. Most states in Southern India and Eastern Indian are being provided with this model. You don't get to choose your router, Whatever Airtel has in stock they will give you that, If you don't like it use your own router. Perhaps you should read their T&C before you start demanding this and that.

And since your parents are going to be using it for most of the time, I am sure they won't be tinkering with the settings etc like power users do.
Incase the router goes kaput, Airtel will take care of the replacement and the configuration part. All you need to do is give them a call when it happens.

@Blue Leaf

I'm just asking for a better product in exchange for what I'm paying. Most users are sheep doesn't mean I'll follow them.

I need a better router for my parents, because this one has crap range & speed which is unusable half the time. I don't care about the rare use/power user stuff.

In case you didn't understand it well, the parents point was exactly why I mentioned that I can't use my own router, because if things fuck up while I have my router installed, airtel support guy might not be able to tinker with my router & will just leave after setting up their unusable default/Gx router, when the ZTE one I earlier had was just perfect, which they provided themselves with another connection at the same location.

You might be the submissive or timid kind who gives in to whatever is given to you, I'm not. Airtel could be just prying on users like you for profits who won't ask for better service because good quality ZTE kinda routers are probably more costly than this crap Gx kind.

I've asked them & the local guy has already initiated a request to source one.

Cry me a river boy!
Never mind looks like he received the ban hammer already. Good job Admins/Mods.

And for those of you who think, just because you have taken a Fiber connection from Airtel, They will be your lapdog, think again!
Clearly the user above user did not read the T&C despite me asking him to do so but he rather choose to personally attack me for spitting out hard facts.

There are lot of nuances added to the policy as of late, I suggest you all read it before you start making demands and throwing tantrums around.
