Hello Guys,

My water filter needs filter change and I am inspired by @ghpk's video and I have decided to change filters myself thistime. I have few questions though:

1. Will opening and re-packing the filter housing damage the O-Rings and thus should I order them in advance?
2. Do you know the life span of UV Lamp and how frequently should it be changed?
3. Do I need mineral cartridge?
I am not able to find any good source about whether I need mineral cartridge or not. I bend towards having one instead of post carbon filter (Bio+AAA Mineral Cartridge for RO Water Purifiers: Amazon.in: Home & Kitchen)

I plan to order the following kit
For Water Filter RO Purifier COMPLETE SERVICE KIT + 75 GPD hi-tech MEMBRANE[047] | eBay
Any comments on the above?

Additionally, my water filter does not have a TDS controller and I do not plan to add one, As I mentioned above I am bent towards adding a mineral cartridge instead. I am not worried about that it may just be a fad and does not provide any significant health benefit but I do not want it have any negative impact on health and therefore the confusion.

happy to see my efforts are helping people.

Hi-tech membrane is not my taste, I would use vontron or dow.
you can add mineral cartridge for sure, and TDS is controlled using FR (flow restrictor) in models which
do not have TDS adjuster.

I know there are lot of reputed sellers on eBay India, but I usually contact one gem of a person.
he helps you with things other would not even bother to explain.
Sending his number and eBay store link on PM.

These RO's & water filters are not complicated machines....

In Bhagirath Palace, Chandni Chowk or Darya Ganj..... Delhi..... you can get all the above at almost half the price quoted here....

Earlier I had RO but moved to a water filter as the water supplied by DJB is not hard...... RO filters out even the essential minerals etc.

I do service myself.... all filters, carbon and UV tube etc. no big deal and very cheap.....

@ghpk thank you I will try and connect with him

@ijsa (please take this in the lightest sense possible, I do not mean to disrespect you)
I understand that but going to Chandni Chowk is a chore I would like to avoid any day. I will spend Rs200-300 easily in case I decide to go to Chandini Chowk in addition to a holiday that I will waste. I prefer to spend Rs 300-400 extra for the convenience to save all that. Isn't everything in life about convenience?

You can argue, why I decide to change filters when I can get it changed for a price which will be convenient and therefore I must add that it is not about the money but it is about the fun and having to spend time with my son and wife who will help me change filters. I will probably end up spending more but I will have all the fun :)

As I said, I highly appreciate information you provided and I mean no disrespect.

Cheers!!

No issues....

The only reason I mentioned was that you might get hands to what you are looking for....

And at the same time it will address all your queries..

I do not think any RO service provider has any specific answers they just repeat 3-4 things they have picked up during day to day work

Eg:
1. Aquaguard has launched a new RO with something they call Green RO, they claim that water wastage is less and it is suitable for environment where raw TDS is approximate 500. I have been wondering how this works but I have found no answers except "Sir, isme Green
Membrane laga hua hai, wo kam TDS ke liye bana hai."
2. I have searched a lot but I could not find a filter with coconut shell based Activated Carbon all the shit available is Chinese Charcoal based carbon and it has a sponge base which I do not find hygenic specially at a stage after RO membrane. I have spoken to several people and they do not even know the difference.
3. I am still wondering if it is good to add a mineral enhancer cartridge as post filter but I could not find any good document that convince me to go one way or the other. I do not think any vendor can even tell me salts a single cartridge adds to the water.

I have so many questions and I do not think the so called professionals have convincing answers. I have given up now and have decided to go with what is easily available.

I have always assembled my own desktops....... and in my enthusiasm I would check the best VFM available on NewEgg and would try to find out that config at Nehru Place..... but you never get that stuff, no matter how hard you try....

So moral of the story is.... try to get the best out of what is available there...... rather than finding some feature released by someone....

You might not get the best but you will get good enough......

So it is up to you..... and from what I have seen good stuff is available out there.... but you just don't have to be adamant like finding "Green RO".... it might just be something regular but a fancy name given by Aquaguard.....

I am not adamant that I need the latest tech, it is infact other way around.

Green RO is available in the market and I want to understand how does it work to make sure I can make an informed decision when I am in market to purchase one.It is readily available in market and retailers are ready to shove it down my throat but they can not explain me how it works.

Similarly mineral cartridges are available dime a dozen but no body in market can explain me why I need one or they can not give me one approved by a standards agencies to ensure that it is not harmful for my health.

Don't you think that is weird?

Come on we are talking about potable water here, government can not provide me potable water but don't you think they can at-least ensure that spares available are not harmful for general health.

This market is not regulated/monitored by government this leads to the fact that every Tom DIck and Harry has supplies for my RO (including people at Chandini Chowk) available their shop but has no explanation about what is better and why, they push products in which they have higher margin and do not give a shit about your/mine health.
