So I got this new router TP-Link XC220-G3V AC1200 and searched almost everywhere to get it going with Airtel Xstream Fibre.

After a lot of trial and error; here's what worked. Posting with hope this helps someone.

1. Verify all cables connected.
2. Verify you are connected to the router.
3. Reset to factory defaults. ( If these steps don't work, then this step is a must ).
4. Use the router's setup wizard.
5. The GPON serial is required (extract from the router provided by Airtel)
6. The GPON password is empty.
7. The ppoe details need to be filled out (extract user from the router provided by Airtel, password is your account number: check Airtel Thanks app).
8. Reboot.

* Note: I din't have to spoof any mac address etc.

Moral of the story: Don't have to go into advanced settings and tinker with everything. Just be patient, follow the wizard and provide the correct inputs.

Glad it worked for you. In the world of Fiber to Home internet, there's something called as Interoperability between two devices that interface with each other. Not all fiber devices are 100% interoperable with other devices.

e.g. certain ONTs are interoperable with only certain OLTs and like that.
My Airtel was working fine until one day it stooped working. Reason -> the ONT router provided by Airtel (F670L) was just not interoperable with a new OLT that they had replaced at the other end.
It took them a number of days to figure this out.

I always liked the Ethernet days when at the max all you needed to do was spoof the MAC and nothing else.

With FTTH, I always prefer to put the ISP provided ONT in bridge and attach my own high end router to it front ending WAN.
