from what i see android system does not work like that. google develops android internally. only a few partners have access to the latest code. they pick a partner for the release of a new update for their nexus branded devices. once the code is finalized, they release it to partners, and after public launch of a device, they make it available to the open source community. companies manufacturing devices based on android have their own development cycle. at any given time they are probably working on multitudes of models that would launch in the future. for any manufacturer, development of newer models would of course be a higher priority than updating android on their older devices. and when they start development of a model, they stick with what is available at that point of time. that means jelly bean might be out already but the devices you developed were designed with ice cream sandwich in mind. every android device has multiple hardware components. each of which requires a different code. all of them needs to be accounted for the software update. you just cannot release an update for all your models (or even some of them) without spending time on optimizing the new code with all the third party drivers and then your own proprietary user interface layers. google nexus devices get updates faster because google developers probably use these devices for the development of the newer android builds. so they already have all the required code and drivers... once the android update is finalized, they just have to pack it up, test it and make it available for shipment. there is no other third party code to worry about. of course i have no idea how the thing really works in real life. but to expect third party manufacturers to operate like Apple with respect to android updates is insane. apple has a few models that they themselves build and manufacture. they can do what they do because they have fewer things to worry about.

^ man that was a long post...:Boy Write:

it was a messy post. the core point was that manufacturers do not are about faster updates for their phones. they care more about their own product cycle.. which means that they prefer to spend more resources on future models because that is where the money is.

yea ..what you said makes sense. Just wish manufacturers were more interested in development of android other than just adding sense/touchwiz on top of it and releasing new phones to run it
