Well. You guys have to understand that Google cannot release official updates for these devices because the hardware is managed by the manufacturers. Even the Linux Kernels of these Android builds are from Samsung and HTC and not Google. Because these companies have access to the drivers and other system level code. Google is just managing the top layer. Every update would need comparable updates in the kernels from the OEM. So, the release would be delayed for a few weeks hopefully (at max) compared to Nexus devices.
 
They are Google supported as in Google would probably take the kernel (or whatever) from OEMs and then update the Android build on it and release it.HTC and Samsung are better equipped to manage the linux kernel on these devices as they are the ones building phones based on the hardware. I am not a technical enough person but I can understand why these phones are not purely Nexus.It is a compromise sure. But the good thing is that things are clear already and not when they are ready to roll out the first update.
