That’s right: Japan is getting Iron Man 3 in smell-o-vision. It’s not actually called “smell-o-vision” – that’s so last century – but according to The Hollywood Reporter the film will be shown in a theater in Nagoya in 4DX. This “fourth dimension” experience will offer wind, fog, tilting seats, and odor effects. It’s unclear exactly what the smells themselves will be, but if Tony smells like his Diesel-made eau de wiseass, it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever. The odor-enhanced screenings, which later this month in the central Japan town, will cost an additional 1,300 yen (about $13) on top of the regular ticket price for 3-D films, and additional an $10 (around 1,000 yen) for 2-D screenings. The Kronoa World chain, which runs the theater offering the enhanced version, plans to offer a dozen films a year in the format, with Iron Man 3 to be the first in Japan.
