ISRO Updates

Following the rapid Ku-band transponder shortage faced by the DTH Industry, as they continue providing more and more HD(High-definition) services on their platform, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has pioneered a Request For Proposal (RFP) to get answers from concerned foreign satellite operators for leasing satellites with transponders functioning in Ku and C-band frequencies. Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office V Narayanaswamy confirmed this news.
Dish TV, which enjoys a high market share said that it will be employing four 54 MHz Ku-band transponders on AsiaSat 5 to better its HD and SD services. The extra transponder capacity on AsiaSat 5 will allow Dish TV to grow significantly in its DTH services to over 30 HD and 320 SD channels. Tata Sky, a conjunction between Tata Group and Rupert Murdoch’s Star Group, demands 12 extral transponders for growth but ISRO failed to satisfy their needs.

On condition of anonymity, an executive with a famous DTH serice provider said, “All the DTH operators want more transponder space. Isro has to speed up the satellite launches. There also should be an urgency to allow space on foreign satellites. Then only can the DTH industry expand their channel offerings.”

ISRO is cashing in big time on construction and launch of communication satellites GSAT-9 and GSAT-10, in order to raise their transponder capacity. At the moment ISRO has 187 transponders from nine Indian Communication satellites, which also includes GSAT-12. It has acquired 86.5 transponders on lease from foreign operators via its marketing wing Antrix Corporation Limited.

Problem is not space problem there is 6 dth providers in India & they use six channel space to telecast a channel. Continue...Suppose STAR PLUS channel telecast by 6 dth providers means they captures 5 more times channel space for STAR PLUS telecast. If all channels keep on a particular satellite by 6 DTH providers & allow them who subscribes it then whats the problem. Just they need to use specific encryption service & their interactive services just to their subscribers. Main benefit is they will include many FTA channels for make their package max no. of channels.Look RDTV & SDTV has one satellite. DD & DTV has nearest Satellites Then capacity will automatically expand.

All the DTH service needs to talk on TP sharing....Atleast if 2 DTH comes together it will gain for them as well as to the customers too.....Even if the DTH Service providers intend to do it...it will some months for them to practically implement in Sharing the TP's....But the question is that when will the DTH service providers starts to show interest in sharing the TP's....

Thats we were discussing yesterday that there should be a coordination between DTH Operators too and here it had started :)

Since RDTV & SD are sharign the TP's...similarly other DTh service providers also should go ahead in sharing TP's between them....I hope these things materializes soon....But will it happen....

ISRO to build new class of powerful communication satellites
Press Trust Of India / Chennai/ Bangalore September 1, 2011, 0:15 IST

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) plans to build a class of powerful communication satellites that packs more capacity and new technologies, its Chairman K Radhakrishnan said here on Wednesday.

This kind of spacecraft would handle larger amount of power and accommodate more number of transponders in the same satellite, he said, adding ISRO planned to incorporate new technologies in them and get into higher bands. “Today, we are at Ku-band. We want to get into Ka band and even hig-her band. This is one of the priorities (in the coming Five-Year Plan (which starts in April next year),” Radhakrishnan, who is also Chairman of Space Commission and Secretary in the Department of Space, said.

I hope TS gets the transponders from this Satellite launch...but the problem is that TS has to wait till next year April....

Does anyone know status of ISRO satellite which has limited Tata Sky launching new channels for over a year now and running out of space. If it's not going to be this year, I plan to change as Videocon seems to offer almost all HD channels and moreover max no.of channels.I have been with tata sky since its launch of both SD and HD respectively. I would need your suggestions on this as I am their premium customer and they don't charge me for any service/relocation etc and would lose all of that if I change and start all over.Any inputs would be appreciated. Incase would you like to move this topic to any existing thread, it's fine. I created new thread so I get response much better and wasn't sure were to insert this topicThanks

Tata Sky is helpless....... operators like airtel, D2h, Sun Tv came much later than Tatasky and still Tatasky run's short of Transporders. Ultimate loss is for there royal subscribers.
