remove the Static IP from LAN settings in Modem, and reboot
then Select use static IP under WAN if than option is available,
As internet works 24x7 using Cable, I am sure its nothing except the router config. issue.

Changed the LAN IP in modem to the static IP allotted to me... still did not work... also when I did this, the IP address became dynamic again...
My modem is set to 192.168.1.1 if I change it to static IP allotted, I no longer have a static IP... this is getting too confusing!
Now the speed is back to 2 mbps and wifi is down... unlike other days

Let's start at the beginning and isolate the issues -

[*]static ip - this is a static ip on MTNL's network, so it has to be configured on the WAN side and not the LAN. Devices on your LAN will have IPs such as 192.168.x.x as given out by your network router. Your LAN is 192.168.1.0 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Also I imagine that MTNL is allotting the static IP from their end to your router, so you may not need to do anything for that part to work. You also mentioned that when you tried to assign it to LAN side, you got the message that the IP was being used in the other interface, i.e. WAN side.
[*]in the wi-fi router settings, check the parental settings, as these may be denying access during the day time.
[*]remember to reboot your modem/router once you've made the changes.
