Jio Fiber router starts to slow down over time (2026)

Hi, Everyone.
I need your help and expertise.

I have this Jio Fiber router JCO4032. (The slim blue router)

Now, the router runs fine over quite a few days. but after almost 2 weeks, it starts to slow down, like website taking longer to load.

When I ran background ping, I saw that router is giving request timeouts for few minutes and then again starts to work, and again stops after few minutes, and this cycle continues..

Please help me with the solution if anyone got it fixed.

hey @useryagami I’m using the newer JCOw404 JioFiber router, and honestly, this is some seriously shitty behaviour from Jio.

My plan is only 30 Mbps, and when the connection is idle, everything looks fine. But the moment I put the connection under load especially while watching 4K YouTube the packet loss starts going crazy.


I’m not talking about just higher ping. The connection literally starts dropping packets. If I run a continuous ping while watching 2K, I can see 10%+ packet loss at times. And this isn't some random one off I've reproduced it multiple times.


What makes this even more frustrating is that Airtel doesn't behave like this. Even when you're using basically the entire available bandwidth on Airtel, you don't suddenly start getting this ridiculous packet loss.
 
Yeah, I am already using the jio router with wifi turned off and a TP-Link router in AP mode for the wifi.

Even then the slow down issue comes up in about two weeks of uptime, after which only restart fixes it. 🥲

@useryagami Yeah, in my case it’s a bit different. I’m using the TP-Link in normal Router mode, not AP mode, and honestly I was going crazy trying to figure this shit out. 😭

The packet loss wasn’t just Wi-Fi either .. I was getting it on LAN and Wi-Fi. After testing everything, I’m pretty convinced the problem is the Jio ONT’s shitty QoS/queue handling when the connection gets saturated.

What finally worked for me was using Bandwidth Control on the TP-Link and keeping the speed slightly below my actual 30 Mbps connection. I set it to around 28 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload.


And holy shit, the difference was actually noticeable. 😂


Before this, whenever the connection got close to its limit, I’d start seeing packet loss and unstable ping. But after limiting it on the TP-Link, I can actually use the full 28 Mbps without the connection going completely nuts. I even tested it while playing 4K YouTube, and I got 0% packet loss with a much more stable ping.

The only downside is Double NAT, but honestly at this point I don't even care. 😂 I’ll take Double NAT over Jio’s shitty QoS dropping packets every time I actually try to use my internet.

For normal browsing, YouTube, downloads, etc., Double NAT hasn't caused me any noticeable problems so far.

Wow, this is the first time, I am seeing an issue like you described.. and glad you got the fix.

Like in my case packet drops start to happen after the router is running continuously for about 2 weeks without any restart ( because I use always on UPS with router).

I think your router has some issues, because mine only starts to show packet loss / lag ( NOT HIGH PING as you can see my screenshot) only after it has not rebooted for several days and after restart the issue is completely and appears again after several days.

And I am on 100 mbps plan, and I don’t get packet loss like you said.

1. Do you get this issue even after restart ?
2. Also try to use jio router wifi/lan directly or in TP-Link in AP mode ( might be issue with tp link router )
 
If you have to to deal with double NAT and all this hassle just to get reliable connection then that ISP doesn't seem worth considering only tbvh. Try if you can bypass Jio ONT somehow if you don't wanna switch but I'd ideally switch ISP...
 
I have the similar issue. My router used to drop pings, even though I rarely use 4k buffering, mostly during nights. Here is one such example:

Notice that the max latency is 181899 seconds!!! On an average, I could easily see 3-4s latencies. Then I started to ping router ip (192.168.29.1) and noticed ping used to drop there as well. Got it replaced, but problem stayed the same. I could now ping the router, but WAN ping were dropped randomly. I've raised countless tickets, X post complaints etc. but nobody on their end could guess the problem. Most of them don't even understand what ping means!

NOTE: Jio used to work pretty well for 2 years, only recently facing this issue.

I am now switching to airtel. Lets hope they are not in the same boat

I got my router replaced from slim blue (jco4032) to bigger standing one (jcow407)

I got the problem like you said..
When downloading/uploading without any limit set, I think the router uses its complete bandwidth for that one heavy task, causing ping spikes because of 100% utilisation.

I think one fix can be to limit to 90-95 mbps to allow some bandwidth explicitly, just like you did.

I also have to link router attached but dont want to set it up in router mode for this bandwidth limit setting,

Can you tell me how exactly where did you set this limit and if it possible to set at jio router level ?
 
I understand your problem now after seeing it for myself.. but the interesting things is it did not happen with previous router, it only caused packet loss without any high ping or bufferbloat..

It caused packet loss if running for days and sometimes it also rebooted on its own, dont know why..

Guess we dont have a perfect router.
 
I am pretty sure its becuase, Jio hard-drops packets the instant you exceed 30Mbps (rate policing) while Airtel briefly queues and smooths overshoot instead (rate shaping) — a network config choice, not a technology limit.
 
Ok so actually after spending on this I found why it's happened.. YouTube doesn't stream at a flat, continuous speed; it pulls data in aggressive 2 to 3-second bursts to quickly fill the playback buffer, pauses, and then bursts again.

I also did the exact same test on Airtel, and trust me the difference is night and day:

On Airtel: Even when maxing out the full bandwidth during those burst cycles, packet loss is practically negligible. Airtel clearly provides a proper buffer zone/headroom or at least queues the traffic gracefully so packets don't get trashed.

On Jio: It feels like they have an aggressive, hard rate-policer with zero burst allowance. The exact millisecond YouTube tries to burst past the 30 Mbps limit to build the buffer, Jio's gateway immediately drops packets left and right instead of smoothing them out.

So while the video might still play, the entire connection chokes with packet drops and TCP retransmissions every few seconds during each buffer chunk.
