Some Jio person came by with an offer to change the router for free.
I have the 'White router' which I've been using since the introductory offer was launched in this area. Details below:
Model: JCO500
Firmware: FXCTF1_JCO500_R3.13

He said Jio will even refund my security deposit for it. It all seems too good to be true for a new router. Whats the catch here? Does the new router throttle torrents harder? Does it mine my data even better?

Second thing. Over the past few weeks, I've been experiencing some disconnect issues. This is most apparent during online gaming, but even otherwise it is noticeable. From what I can tell the router doesn't noticeably lose connection, but it happens on the connected devices. Any solution to this?

Update: I confirmed, upgrading the router requires them to make a new account. Which means your existing recharge(prepaid connection) will be void. So yeah, no upgrade for a while. Jury is still out on my connection issue though.

There is some gold left by jio engineers inside the router which is worth Lakhs. They're silently going to take it from you by saying free router upgrade but you surely don't know the real deal man... Just keep it (or I should say tear apart the router and take out the gold). Else you can verify my statement by asking them "I will pay for new router but won't give my old router" see how their colours will change... 😉

He is trying to sell you a new connection masquerading as a replacement offer your old connection will be closed and hence you will receive the refund but let me tell you that the white router is the best one that they have ever produced and you should not let it go

Yes, that's what they did to me too. Never used the white one but the previous one only had support for 2.4Ghz so this is okay although creating a new connection is unacceptable.

What issues do the new routers face as opposed to the old ones?

The ping being high during download is just a Jio problem AFAIK not a router problem, just high loaded latency.
