JioFiber Bufferbloat: 2024 vs 2026 but the lag spike is EXACTLY the same

I wanted to share a weird observation from my 30Mbps JioFiber connection.

I have two test results: one from July 2024 and one from Jan 2026.
In those 1.5 years, Jio made a massive improvement to the routing. My unloaded latency dropped from 42ms down to 6ms. That is a huge jump in quality.

However, look at the bloat: In both tests, when the download is maxed out, the latency spikes by +69ms

I really appreciate the 6ms ping, but it feels like Jio just polished the surface and left the backend buffer management exactly how it was in the stone age.

Has anyone else seen their ping drop this hard while the "Bufferbloat Grade" stays exactly the same?

@f0r3he4d At the moment, Jio is my only option as there are no other service providers in my locality. I just noticed that It has been performing well lately, so let’s see how much improvement we get
 
Your grade is still C tho. not really an improvement per se. If you’re the only person using this network itll be fine but if theres more than a couple of devices streaming youll hit bufferbloat territory almost all the time. not really a concern if youre not duing latency intensive tasks.
 
@raj17 I think it is because they got a server in your state now. I see similar ping difference too, ever since routing to Raipur server improved for me. And recently, I noticed sites using Fastly CDN are also having 6-7ms ping for me. I am seeing similar ping in Bufferbloat website too.

Initially, I didn't actually see a lot difference in ping to the major locations like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, but there was definitely a bit more consistency. It improved further few months ago, and now my ping can be called excellent to at least Mumbai/Chennai (either one of them at a time).

Has your ping to Mumbai, Chennai, etc. also improved significantly?

@Skye One more thing I’ve noticed on my side the behavior changes a lot depending on the time of day.
In the morning, everything feels very smooth: sites open instantly and videos start right away.

But in the evening, it feels noticeably laggy. For example, opening Twitter or Facebook can take 4–5 seconds, and sometimes videos take a while to start or even get stuck briefly.

I’m not 100% sure whether this is due to Wi-Fi interference or Jio’s routing being under higher load during peak hours, but it definitely feels like congestion somewhere on the path rather than raw latency.

What’s interesting is that when I switch to a VPN, things often load faster pages open quicker and videos start immediately even though the VPN increases my ping. That makes me think the issue might be with the default route or peering Jio is choosing during peak time, rather than the last-mile connection itself.
 
@raj17 Yes, I have noticed that too. Until like 11 AM, browsing speed is extremely quick, but after that, there is a "little lag" which keeps increasing with time. It is still fast for me though, so I don't mind it.

It might just be load on their infrastructure, I guess. Somebody who actually knows about this stuff might be able to explain. 😂
 
@Skye Honestly, the folks at Jio probably know exactly what’s going on… if only they’d leak the secret instead of making us guess
