So I'm still reading the now closed 132 page thread on replacing JioFiber ONT with TP-Link ONU XZ000-G3. But i have some questions before i go down this path or would it be better to just go with Local ISP.

  1. Most important, Will Jio Set top box and Jio Join work after replacing their ONT with my own ONT + Router?
  2. Please recommend some good ONT/s that i can buy in mumbai, either online or offline. I can't find any reputable online store. Any shops in Lamington road?
  3. If I decide to terminate their connection, will Jio take away their STB + Router + ONT?
  4. JIO ISP ---> CUSTOM ONT---> CUSTOM ROUTER ---> JIO ROUTER (as Wireless Access Point and a simple switch)?
  5. Any advantages of rooting?

My deal breaker will the 1st Q. I'm aware of the custom domains jio uses, will that be enough? I'm assuming there are other hardware checks in place?
Those of you who managed to replace Jio ONT, what's your experience?

I'd be grateful, if anyone of you would be kind enough to answer any of these questions!

1. STB works, Jio Join doesn't.
2. Get a G3 plus a router in your budget, LTOnline store sells G3 in Mumbai or get an XX530v from FGTech, it is also in Mumbai
G3 link: TP link XZ000-G3 1-Port Gigabit GPON Terminal – Rs.1290 – LT Online Store
XX530v link: TP-Link XX530v AX3000 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 XPON Router - FGTECH STORE
3. They do usually take their stuff away.
4. You can employ the Jio HGW as a simple switch or as an extender but please don't forget to turn off its DHCP server.
5. Jio HGW is a shitty piece of hardware so no benefits, really.

@Lorian Buying a AP would be much easier than utilizing anything out of Jio HGW.

You will be very disappointed to know that it will not broadcast your router's WiFi signals and its intenal WAN interface still has MAC address you put in your custom router and having two devices with same MAC will give you severe brain damage.
Thats the reason their bridge mode doesn't work in the first place.

Just buy a router cum AP.

I personally use XZ000-G3 v1 as ONT, OpenWRT vm as router and AX53 as AP and its been working fine.
