LibreOffice

Soon we might have SQL foundation and they will ask Oracle to donate for MySQL development :D

That name doesnt sound to be Opensource and not easily memorable either. I dont know why they have to use name Maria.

well they can always change the name once it is a comparable stable offering. but then postgresql never gained the popularity as an alternative to mysql. :(

PostgreSQL is indeed popular. Not as popular as MySQL though. The main reason it didnt gain much popularity is because1) Name was not so easy to remember, so it suffers at word of mouth publicity2) MySQL started with simple things in mind and PostgreSQL started with complex things in mind. So MySQL turned out to be lightweight SQL server which provided basic features and was fast. So most projects selected MySQL.But now PostgreSQL shud grab the chance and bring itself to limelight.

too bad none of the apps i use support postgresql actively. there is a demand for it on xenforo forum but very few people support it. overall, a crappy situation. i myself want to migrate from apache to nginx but very little support for it.

Cisco, Skype, IMDB, Sourceforge, Apple, Fujitsu, Telstra and even Sun Microsystem (MySQL owner) are few popular users of PostgreSQL.

Yes most forums/tools/apps were developed in early 2000s or before, at that time MySQL was very popular.

And MySQL still works for them, so obviously they wont bother to migrate to another SQL server, because SQL statements may differ and it adds a lot of work.
