man i download every update hoping to see something amazingly nice... something that can get me to use it over office 2010... i guess nothing substantial is coming before libreoffice 4.
LibreOffice developers have developed some additional security patches and fixes. These are part of a general set of development improvements which are reflected in the overall quality and stability of the software. Most LibreOffice 3.4.3 security fixes have been developed by Caolan McNamara of RedHat and Marc-André Laverdière of Tata Consultancy Services.
1st based on the name of person it seems he is not Indian.2nd I doubt that TCS has any hand in this! He possibly works at TCS and contributing to Org during free time.3rd TCS might just now start taking credit for this, though!
i see your point. he might be an employee of TCS but working on OpenOffice in the free time. But I really doubt that he would have highlighted his employer connection if that was the case.
LibreOffice 3.4.2 is the result of the combined activity of 300 contributors having made more than 23,000 commits, with the addition, deletion or modification of around five million lines of code. The developer community is well balanced between company-sponsored contributors and independent community volunteers: Oracle and SUSE have each provided around 25% of the commits, with a further 25% coming from community volunteers new to the project since our inception, and with a further 20% from RedHat. The remaining commits came from a combination of pre-TDF contributors, Canonical developers, and organizations like Bobiciel, CodeThink, Lanedo, SIL, and Tata Consultancy Services.
LibreOffice Coming to the Web, Android and iOS!
The web-based version of LibreOffice, demoed in the embed below, uses the GTK+ framework and the HTML5 canvas to render the interface.
Also announced were plans to port LibreOffice to Android and iOS by late 2012/early 2013 – complete with a new mobile-friendly interface.
The porting work will be carried out by Finnish developer Tor Lillqvist, who was responsible for porting GIMP to Windows.
So, we might see a free Officesuite here as well? (Although in late 2012!)
Well, I believe you would need permission from your org before you do & you can only do it if the org's business is not affected.. If its done outside the umbrella of your org.
openoffice on android? forget it. they are trying to bring a web based edition. not going to work. libreoffice is too bloated for web forget mobile devices.
