LibreOffice is coming to Android - TechRepublic

They have managed to squeeze it down to 54MB. The limit is 50MB for Google Play Store.

Wow! But will it work on 512MB RAM? I have such phone, may not work!

May be if they can split each app then it would be even less i.e. Word / Excel / Powerpoint versions separately.

What's up with 50mb limit ? Why don't they market it through website since APK can be installed easily!

50MB because it takes lots of space. (system plus dalvik OR ART cache).

And may take lots of memory as well.

Since most hardware are still low end for such operations, probably they are trying to discourage developers from developing big apps which may give impression to end user that Android is slow.
