To be clear, Thunderbolts hasn’t sunk to the depths of “The Marvels,” which remains the MCU’s lowest-grossing film at just $205M worldwide. But it’s still the second-worst performer in franchise history.
Kind of surprising considering reviews were good. I guess not everyone warmed up to the idea of people who did not have any solo movies, and were essential supporting cast, suddenly being made the main leads.
I guess the star power wasn't enough. People were too burned out to go to theatres for smaller-scale comic book movies. And the worst part is that Disney will use this box office performance as a yardstick to conclude that small, standalone comic book movies don't work. Big names and Big projects only.
I can see Fantastic Four getting a big jump at the opening weekend, even though the internal reports say that the movie is not good and that the chemistry between the cast is non-existent, which is what I feared. The only good thing about it is the villain. lol
