Google bought Motorola along with it's 7000 patents for $12.5 billion now selling it to Lenovo along with 2000 patents for $2.9 billion.
Motorola's 5000 patents valued at $10 billion
Now Moto customer will have to join the rest of the customers of Lenovo/Gionee etc in the que outside the common service centers they use for their products. BTW they still have to get permissions form their respective governments.

Also google is keeping Motorola's Advanced Technology Group (which includes Project Ara) as well as majority of the patents. Also tech people are saying this is not that much of an bad deal.
I think Google has offloaded the 'manufacturing' division.
We all knew that it acquired Moto not for its phones but for its patents. It must have secured all patents that involve Android or software and sold away the unnecessary ones.
It will still have a foot in the hardware market with Project Ara. Lenovo with its hardware know how will do a much better job than Google could with Moto. Plus it strengthens Lenovo's footprint in the USA, which was one market it was unable to break in properly. Lenovo is a smart player. It will do a good job. Though it remains to be seen if the Moto brand survives or not.
Personally, I feel its a win-win-win-win deal for everyone. Google-Moto-lenovo-Customer.
Lenovo has already confirmed that Moto brand will live on along side lenovo. Already Moto has been working independently even though it has been part of google since 1 year and Larry was right that it would be good for Moto to be under an true hardware player rather than google.
