Motorola Moto G (Lollipop Out!)

This now feels like those days when people would ask their relatives in USA to get them the phone when they travel to India next! :-D

The only way I can purchase the Moto G is by placing an order at a friend's address and waiting to travel to Delhi to get my package. *facepalm*
 
People abuse COD. WS Retail must have identified problem areas where people must be returning COD orders. So they must be trying to minimize their losses.
 
This is NOT about CODs for the nth time!

If people returning CODs were an issue, they could have simply disabled that option for orders above Rs 10,000! It makes no sense to bar prepayment purchases.

They probably had some logistic issues with sale in Uttar Pradesh, realized that the state is not a significant enough market for premium purchases (most people in UP would rather buy an expensive item from a shop) and decided to stop sale of premium items altogether rather than solve logistics. This, if you consider an item costing 5,0001/- premium - for that is the limit for my pincode.

The issue here is not Flipkart. Snapdeal has no such restriction for my pincode and I can order stuff from there. The issue here is availability of product. If Flipkart is going to be the exclusive retailer for Motorola and possibly Xiaomi, how are people in Uttar Pradesh (~20% of India's population) going to buy these products? This is like going back in time where Indians used to wait for a newly launched product to wear out so that it can be launched in the local market.

Not long back most users here used to crib about unavailability of newly launched products in India. Posts after posts were written ranting about India missing a global launch. Well, the same is being repeated within the country now.
 
Any private business enterprise will not discriminate among paying customers. FK must be having valid reasons for its actions and it is with in their rights to serve or not to serve a particular territory.

You know what, it is well within the rights of a private bus operator to disallow you from boarding his bus even if it is the only operator running between your village and the nearest city. But does it make it good practice? It is well within the government's mandate to curb your freedom of speech, but does make it good practice? Stop being a Flipkart apologist FFS!

As far as business discriminating paying customers is concerned, well, surprise! It happens ALL THE TIME when there is a demand supply mismatch.
 
Yes. It's absurd really. If they were getting fraud orders from UP, they could have deviced a rating system. An older user with a good behavior could have continued to get the orders through their partners. Having a blanket ban makes them look bad. I mean just wait for their IPO, they are going to be slammed for ignoring a huge market like UP.

I personally would hate to be in a city where I cannot order certain items from Flipkart. And know how governments are finally realizing that they are losing sales tax revenues through online shopping route, more states could join the list. Eventually, all stores would end up charging extra for sales tax like it happens on US stores.

In a business the most important thing is to avoid losses and that too of the kind where you are cheated straight out of your money eg bad debts. So if a company is cautious doing business in a risky environment then we cannot blame that company for it.
Also Flipkart must be having lot of options on its hand regarding where to prioritize investment and simply UP seemed not worth to them right now. It happens all the time. Even sometimes Delhi or Mumbai get products or stores after launch in other parts of the country.
