What's the max speed a LAN card can support, if one opts for FTTH? If it does not, then do we have LAN cards supporting these speeds?

1Gbps is normal. u do get 10Gbps cards ...but i have yet to meet someone who uses it in his home!! even if mtnl gave u 100gbps speeds, u wud only get a fraction of it while downloading /surfing etc.

What the hell?I jumped over to MTNL because of the lack of fair usage policy on their plans and now they might shove it upon us anyway?:DI mean why would anyone, and I mean anyone, pay 1899 to MTNL despite their crappy customer service when they can basically get the same plan for less money with Airtel/Reliance etc?Talk about shooting yourselves on the foot!:D

Unfortunately, MTNL doesn't have the basic capacity/infrastructure/bandwidth to provide such high speeds. So I kinda understand MTNL's side.

They are trying to increase their capacity by adding a new data centre at Worli. But that will take time.. long long time. Probably so long that human race will not be alive to see the results.

Looks like they got it working 'MTNL forays into Data Center Services'

Well its a great move on MTNL's part but hope they have a good technical support for the same otherwise it would be disastrous, MTNL's aunties wont know what is FTTH nor will the line man will have the knowledge of the same. It would be mess. MTNL should outsource private tech support and technicians for this FTTH service.Regarding this FTTH service the optical cable will be from exchange to the consumers home, correct me if I'm wrong. I stay at 10 Flr, so the line man would have to put a cable from ground zero to all the way to 10 flr.I'm contemplating on the Fibre 1 and Fibre 2 plan. 2 Mbps for 1899 looks good as 2 Mbps UL comes at 4999. I mostly download at most 20GB in a month so the Fibre 2 plan looks good. And with FTTH it would resolve all the disconnection problem that we are having as of now and speed would be 100% rather than with copper wire which is less than 80%.So any of you contemplating on FTTH do let me know as I may be one but wont jump on the gun so soon.If needed to change would be in the month of June as April already finished and in May we would have a fair idea of the FTTH technology and who will be handling MTNL's FTTH backhand, would it be aunties or a outsourced BPO.Lets wait and watch this space as it would be the most happening thing ever.:Boy Yahoo:

FTH was promised by the then ED in 2009 with a claim that they would start in Dec 2009. :1drool:

BTW the MTNL Mumbai page seems to be down as also the MTNL Triband page & if you click on MTNL Mumbai - Broadband Web Self Care & any of the links for tariff (Limited or UL plans) it gives an error. A hope of better offers to come ???? :blink3::w00t:

If the Fiber 649 plan had a top speed of 'upto 5Mbps' & had a limit of 8 or 10 gb then I might have considered it

Tariff page working fine for me though

Agree that it should be outsourced, but wait, think about the repercussions. Once MTNL outsources, there would be an communication problem with the outsourced agency and the MTNL Officers, If both, cant communicate, imagine how our issues would be resolved. As it is, MTNL doesn't understand the issue properly in the name of "Online Support", What would they do if they outsource it?
