it is available under most of the exchanges now in delhi and mumbai ... only a few smaller ones don't have it i think.

advantages of iptv over dth...
[*] its a little cheaper
[*] less chances of it trying to capitalize on the monopoly on market (like Tata Sky does)
[*] its a new technology so lots of room for experimenting...
[*] and how cool is it to have telephone internet and tv signal come down a single line:)
[*] doesn'tget affected by rains
[*] u might be able to watch tv on ur pc without a tv tuner or set top box
[*] and if ur lucky and mtnl screw up in a certain way u might get extra bandwidth to download stuff without them knowing it
[*]time-shift tv is a feature u can only get on iptv
and the disadvantages---
[*] does not have a big user base so u don't really know if it will be worth it
[*] mtnl is involved so a huge probability of goof-ups on their end
[*] and if the telephone line goes down(doesn't happen very often now) then u will be pretty much cut off
currently IPTV is costly. because even though plan rent is 200, the stb rent and tax take it to 340 or so a month. they shud have provision of own STB or cheaper stb.

u can buy the stb outright for 3000 bucks or pay rs 860 for the year's rent (comes to 71/month or 64/month if u consider the 9% interest u earn on the rs1000 security deposit)

Thanks for the information.

@nish_lalcan i post your post no 21 (comparisom bw DTH and IPTv) in post no1 by myself.I will defintely give u due credit.so r u getting some extra BW.

yea sure... u can use my postand rather than getting extra bandwidth i am now getting 256kbps on my 749nu... this happened when they synced my line at 3mbps downstream and 1mbps for iptv... (will get this fixed in a few days)

They have to give u a dedicated BW of 4mbps for iptv alone.thanks for letting me use your post.

How's the picture quality compared to DTH? This still remains answered. I have heard of pixellation and "picture breaking" in IPTV after every few minutes. Please comment on that aspect.I have seen that picture is not very "sharp" in many DTH channels. How about IPTV?Many times, MTNL phone line gets noisy. Does IPTV picture quality also decreases accordingly?

The kind of picture quality u get will purely depend on your phone line.

correct me if im wrong, but does the cable line go into ur TV? i was under the impression that you had to watch the TV on ur pc itself and need a tuner card of some sorts for it. thanks. any west delhi users? share your experinces :)
