MTNL modem vs D Link 2750U

My bad. v2 is 2x5dbi. Recently bought this off flipkart, so I'm positive flipkart stocks v2. Though the specs listed are for v1, iirc.

Beyond the specs, there is no reliable way to check. I went with fk coz I had used their return policy in the past and it was fairly simple. The box mentions the hardware revision.

Isn't the buffalo meeting your needs?

Off-topic, but what reason can I provide for returning a working product? If the spec says 2x3dbi and I get a 2x3dbi product, isn't it my fault for ordering it? Or is their return policy a "no questions asked" one? If the box mentions the hardware version, I suppose I can still return it without opening...

Back to topic, the buffalo is being used for the local ISP's internet. I need a modem-cum-router for the MTNL connection.

Off topic, The MTNL provided wifi modem is decent, but I am stuck at <10 snrm. I changed the modulation to GMT, cleaned all connections/splitter-end-points with nail polish remover, asked the line to be checked. I will continue visiting their offices and complain to the for a couple more days (have been there twice in the past two and managed to get 8Mbps working). Currently the session remains online for close to 30 mins. By that time, the CRC count reaches around 15,000 (fifteen thousand!) and the session disconnects. I read that a better modem can help maintain a better snr margin. Hence the reluctance to spend money on features not necessary for the MTNL connection to properly.

Flipkart is unlikely to take back an opened package without any manufacturing fault. That has been my experience. Though there are exceptions like for example they took back a hard disk which I had opened and connected to my PC only to find that it required a UEFI motherboard which I did not have.

Well, they did take back a router I'd ordered, because it wouldn't work with my printer

- Throughout the day, there are various changes in the stats. The SNRM has fluctuated from -2 to 10. At -2, the modem no longer retained the connection and it reconnected.
- I am on a 8Mbps plan [VDSL & FTTH not available due to being far away from exchange]. During the day, the Data Rate was a li'l above 8000 and the Max Rate was between 8000 and 12000. I was getting close to 6Mbps while downloading/streaming.
- The CRC number would reset to 0 each time the modem reconnects. It would steadily rise up to 15000 and then the modem would disconnect/reconnect again.

I think this is a line issue. Not sure how much a new modem will help. If you're planning to keep mtnl long term, by all means get the TP-Link. But, I'm pretty sure your issues won't end there. Might need more troubleshooting post installing the tp link.

@x720, most likely that's the case. The thing is I haven't used the MTNL connection for internet for close to a year. I re-started using it two days ago. The MTNL provided modem I had then was seemingly faulty. I got it replaced yesterday. Yesterday the SNRM values were above 20. They were fluctuating between 20 and 35. I was getting 2Mbps consistent (they hadn't enabled the 8Mbps plan yet). Towards evening, the SNRM started dropping, frequent disconnections and finally within an hour or two, the router stopped working! I went again today, got the router replaced a 2nd time, got the 8Mbps enabled from their end (seems the additional speed needs to be "bound" to my number). However today, the SNRM values have been less than 10 all throughout. I called the lineman, but he didn't come today. Will visit the exchange again tomorrow. I doubt the high SNRM values yesterday were purely because of the router, but I still wanted to know more about possible alternatives to the MTNL provided modem.
