I currently have the D-Link DSL 502T modem provided by MTNL Mumbai. I am planning to upgrade to a wireless connection. I read many threads on this forums regarding wi-fi but am a bit confused. I wanted to know:1. Which is the Wi-fi Modem+Router supplied by MTNL? Will they take away my DSL 502T and give me a new Modem+Router ? Or will they retain my 502T and give me an additional wireless Router only ? 2. Can I connect 2 or 3 laptops simultaneously using MTNL's solution? I read one thread on this forum which said to check whether the wifi router has 2 or more WAN ports....so I am wondering whether are there any wifi routers which allow for only 1 connection....or whether all wifi routers by default allow multiple simultaneous connections. 3. Is the wireless router given by MTNL compatible with Windows Vista? Pls advise the best course of action for me. My requirements are I need to connect 2 laptops (both with Vista) and 1 mobile simultaneously to the net using wifi.

No idea about which routers they supply... Why dont you call the CC guys directly they will be in a better position....
Yes they will take back your DSL 502T... However if you specifically request for the 502T router to be retained you'll be charged rent for both the routers...

Depends upon which wireless router they give.... some routers have only 1 LAN port so you can connect only 1 computer via LAN cable whereas you can connect many computers via wireless.... most of the routers have 4 additional LAN slots, so you can have 4 wired connections... that depends upon which router they provide....

Also all wireless routers provide multiple simultaneous wireless connections.... thats what they are for.... the restriction stays only for the wired connections...

Yep

Using MTNL Triband for 2-3 years now. Quite happy with it. Except for the fact that I am on 590NU and download speeds after 12 midnight are terrible.

Which router would you suggest to buy from the market. Is there a huge difference in the price of wireless router only vis-a-vis wireless modem plus router? Any site where I can check the latest prices?

If I call up MTNL and ask them to take back my old router, how fast does that process take for the mtnl guy to collect my modem and stop charging me Rs.80 per month?

If there is one thing in life that I dread, it is calling up the MTNL CC guys :hysterical:

yap!! calling those idiots and fetching information from them is a real pain in the assss...
