Are you people facing any low speeds. Though my downstream and Upstream data the same. If not, what would be the problem. I am facing very slow speeds. I complained to them, They say "Isse jyaada speed nahi milega aapko". Those people are talking about the Sync Rate.

Any solution?

Write to [email protected] and tell him of your problem. I have done the same. Also do the speed test on MTNL site (that's all they understand) & send that screen shot too.

@ krish

are u on 849 NU & getting this speed.

because i have the same problem. i'm getting about 450 kbps on my connection.

this is what i did:

i went to the exchange with my router. the person said the problem is with your system. u put games & movies on your comp, so the speed is less:p. anyways i convinced him to check the line in the exchange itself

so, he disconnected the line from my house & put it at an outlet in the exchange itself. i used my router on his system. i got slow speed. he said the problem is with my router. we used his router & tried again. again, slow speed.

now since we were checking in the exchange only, it cannot have been a line issue from the exchange to my house.

so we concluded that the problem is with some setting in their server room at prabhadevi.

now comes the difficult part:

the numbers that he gave me, no one answers them. once someone answered & gave me this no. 24361221 which is of the server room. no one will ever pick up this phone.

i called up at 1504 & dialled 3 for online technical help. the person was quite smart & he directed a complaint to the server room which should have been solved by 2 hours. but it didnt happen. but he confirmed that the server room no. is that only.

anyways, i plan to go the exchange tomorrow, because i know the guys there have some internal connections, so he can get through where i cant...

btw i have just taken the connection 10 days back while i think u are an old customer, right? so they just reduce the speed or what.....??

This not picking up phone seems to the usual tactic. When I visited Prabhadevi exchange a guy in the GM's office gave his cell no. but never picks ups. And I am v particular that my calls are during working hours only. Even if I try to contact them on the number they use to call me at my house, they don't pickup !!!!! In fact I was told 'that is not my number', :OThen whats the point of giving the numbers. :@

@ krish

I have been facing the same problem with my 749 NU plan ( Delhi ) since the last two months. Although, my downstream rate has remained a constant 2013 kbps during this period, yet I get only 1 Mbps speed.

Last week, I lodged a complaint with MTNL regarding this. Within hours I got a call from my exchange enquiring about my BB connection. When I told the man about my problem, he said, " All unlimited plans pe 256 kbps speed hi milti hai." I informed him that mine was the night unlimited plan and that I was entitled to get 2 mbps speed. To this, his reply was, "Aapko galti se itni speed mil rahi hogi. Maine bahut places mein ye plan lagaya hai. Mujhe pakka maloom hai." I told him that my downstream data rate was fixed at 2013 kbps. He replied, " Aisa hai to phir mujhe confirm karne do. Mein aapko thodi der mein call karke batata hoon." I thanked him and put down the receiver.

After about one hour, I got another call from MTNL. This time it was a different man though. Exactly the same conversation was repeated with him. After that I got no call from MTNL and I had given up all hope of getting my problem solved.

I dont know how, but I have been getting constant 1.7 mbps speed for the past 3 days. Maybe , after all, these MTNL guys have finally rectified my problem.

@Rachit. I have changed the plan to 256UL. Still not receiving the speeds upto mark. The browsing speed is a good but it stops the half way. Thus the entire loading of page doesn't happen.

Here's the latest i found through the Mtnl's website

There have been frequent enquiries from customers regarding speed of TriBand connection. The following information is submitted for our esteemed customers :

[*]Extract of TRAI notification dated 6.10.2006 for QOS of Broadband Services - "keeping the reasonable loading level in intra-network links upto ISP Node, the benchmark has been prescribed that service providers shall ensure the speed of Broadband connection is greater than 80% of the subscribed speed".
[*]TCP and ATM overhead can go as high as 13% of the specified speed when counting application data transfer rate. The speed subscribed includes these overheads as per industry practice globally.
[*]If you are seeing data download in KB (Kilo Byte), you need to multiply by 8 to arrive at Kbps (Kilo bits per sec).
Customers are generally getting throughput of about 230 Kbps at subscribed speed of 256 Kbps, which is reasonably high as per TRAI guidelines.

@Socrates. I tested with the link you specified. I tested using New york Server. And this is my result.

The Other thing is If you complain to MTNL that you are receiving low speeds other than that reason which i specified. They do say that "Aapka pc slow rahega". lolz:D

today the linesman comes with a comp. technician (cant really call him an engineer)he opens the triband tariff page & shows me that for NU 849 minm speed is 256 kbps & maxm speed is upto 2 mbpsso if you are getting 400-450 kbps stay happy. :Ocan u believe that? i was going to hit him on his head with my chair :panyways now they are going to send a fax to prabhadevi exchange to take care of the speed problem

@Rachit. I would advise you to use the Open Dns server rather than the MTNL ones. Replace the Dns servers i.e. 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220. Replace them in your connection settings. I think it was the Mtnl Dns which was creating problem. Now my speed is okay.
