the explanation is simple. how does a consumer get to challenge the challan in the first place? the machines are controlled by the expressway operators. this kind of automation is exactly the thing people are scared off with aadhaar and other biometric systems. how would you feel if the government makes it mandatory for gps devices to be installed on all cars to automate the entire system of issuing speeding challans? speed anywhere and the gps would make sure that it is recorded in government centers and challans are issued on the basis of that?

so the same can be said for EVM right ? Why trust it , if off course you trust it .
EVMs are monitored by Election Commission which is an independent body. And of course, there are enough doubters in the country and abroad about the security of these machines. Same can be talked about the paper votes. How can you trust the people who are in charge of calculating them? I have doubts about the speed guns used by the traffic police. They can be faulty. And there are enough cases reported online where they have been found to be guilty. I specifically remember one case abroad. A guy used the GPS device on his car to challenge a speeding challan and he won. Because the courts said that two different speeding devices showed different results. And since the evidence provided by the cops was entirely circumstantial with no definitive proof, his challan was dismissed.The government here has motive to have faulty devices. They make money from more challans. They are not doing it for the welfare of the people when the money collected is not really used for public welfare. The entire concept of absurd challans is another form of government sponsored extortion.
agree , but when say govt procures these speed guns based on the recommendation of XYZ committee , courts in india mostly lean towards the govt argument , unless YOU have a definitive proof like on board speed or camera reordered .
