that option is to go into airplane mode which disconnects all networking connectivity. i think that would enable disable the phones ability to receive/make calls?
Thats great. Its indeed a blessing to have native setting for this instead of using APNDroid. Hope i will get this option too when Samsung will release Froyo for Samsung Galaxy 3.
i think right. airplane mode would disable calling and sms capabilities too. it is designed to be used on planes where u can still use the other features of the phone (games, music, movies) all the radios are turned off.

Froyo does not have an option for disabling GPRS with single click. I am not so sure about Gingerbread. I have not heard anything about a new feature being added.

The froyo update for Galaxy S has indeed given this option. Check this screenshot:
haha cool. the froyo for nexus one (native edition) does not have it at least. so got confused.
