as MTNL iptv has shut down in Delhi,i am now about to buy 2 hd dvr connections , this will cost me around 14k initially so this being not a small amount i wanted your valuable inputs based on these parameters-
1. Reliability of stb hardware. (topmost priority)
2.smoothness in operating interface.
so which 1 should i go for? Airtel vs Tata Sky vs videocon???

thanks, I would like some more readers to express their view so that I can order the one which is recommended by the majority

As far as hardware and user interface goes Airtel and Tata Sky are good choices. Have also read in few forums that the user interface is quite similar in Airtel and Tata sky. I am using Airtel HD (no dvr) and have no issues. Have no idea about videocon. If it comes down to channels, for HD channels Airtel is a good choice since it has more channels than tata sky.

The reason I don't like Airtel DTH is due to its logo. Its big and opaque and comes in the way while watching Cricket. Tata Sky logo is minimalistic and translucent. Regarding the number of channels, Tata Sky has started the process of migration from MPEG2 to MPEG4. This will be completed by next year June /July. You should start seeing more channels on Tata Sky as bandwidth starts getting freed up by migration of channels to MPEG4.

I personally use DishTV but the Videocon one has an offer of 1 year subscription with which the STB cost works out free. This is quite a good saving IMO. I've also heard their package and HD clarity is superior to other operators, but I cant vouch for it. I am happy with DishTV for about 10 years now I think - HD for past 2.5 years or so.

1 year subscription free with hd dvr ??? Can you please confirm this?

Sorry couldnt find the exact link right now, but there was a discussion on team bhp for this and also see this one.

If you visit Videocon packages and work out the economics of what you currently pay vs what is the cost of annual pack you will see the benefit
http://www.videocond2h.com/WSC/promotions.aspx
For e.g. I pay for 1 HD STB for HD pack 600 per month on Dish TV
The top HD pack (I think) for 12 months with STB and installation etc is Rs 7290. See pic below.
Again, this may vary depending on what channels one is particular about, but i think it is more economical than TS or DishTV

Also look for local cablewala....I have 24 HD channels and I am paying 300/month for 2 SD and 1 HD STB with almost every sd channel
