Just got a call from someone at Airtel that since I am an old loyal customer of Airtel, they are giving me the special offer of the 1499 plan. The only catch was that they are only offering this for 1 month (as in you only have 1 month to sign up) supposedly - I wouldn't put much stock into that kind of sales pitch. But according to this guy, as well as the guy who called later to confirm it, there is no change to calling rates. And no other kind of cost. Also, there would be no double speed (I had to try :p).

But the cool thing (though I will believe it when I see it) is that the guy specifically said (and reconfirmed) that the plan is for 512kbps unlimited and not upto 512kbps!! He expressly said I will get minimum 512kbps!!

So I've signed up and within 72 hours it should be a go! I'm excited!

* Speed indicated are only speed upto our ISP Node and are given on best effort bases as per TRAI guideline on Quality of Service for Broadband Service

Rs.1500 for 512k is still over-priced when compared to South Asian countries.... I need 512k Unlimited for Rs.700!!

Rs. 700 is asking for too much!! That's not going to happen any time soon. But yes, 1200 to 1300 would have been an optimum price for 512 kbps unlimited. But compared to 1999, paying 1499 is quite gravy :)Two of my friends coincidentally also got the same call today and they opted for it as well, so hopefully Airtel gets a good response and that translates into faster unlimited plans in the future.

what about the existing customers?r they also giving them the same plan for that much? would they automatically update the existing 512 kbps unlimited customers to the new one?
