Hi all,

about 15 days ago I purchased a new Laptop--> Asus x551CA with the following specs :-

Processor - Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1007U @ 1.5GHz
RAM 2GB
System Type 64bit OS, x64- based processor
Hard disk 500GB

I have installed a pirated version of windows 8 OS----> windows 8 Pro

most of my work is centred around internet, i dont play games, no heavy software installed.
I have installed a genuine Antivirus on it.

probelm---- Laptop hangs a lot; hangs when switching b/w apps, b/w tabs in chrome , b/w browser windows.

Is it coz my windows OS is not genuine? or is there some other issue? Guys plz help me out.

Thanks in advance. :)

The laptop sounds kind of underpowered even for Windows 8. And since you said that most of your work revolve around the internet, consider installing a lightweight Linux build on it.

Thanks for ur reply. I dont know how to operate Linux, once my sister had it installed in our home desktop and i was not able to figure out how to do basic things on it. Plus apart from internet I use MS word a lot and also MS one note. The distributor guy told me that it will work fine with win 8, but will create some prob with win 8.1.

under computer properties processor specs are "Processor - Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1007U @ 1.5GHz" but under the heading
Computer management--->Device manager---> System devices--> it is showing as 3rd gen Core processor DRAM controller -0154

Any views?

i would still suggest not using pirated os if your only requirement to run windows is microsoft word and onenote. there are pretty good alternatives for both the apps on linux and it should be fairly simple to install and run if you want to give it a try.

otherwise... i guess, try using windows 7 instead.

Thanks again.

Is linux available free of cost? Is there any thread on how to install it? what are the alternative apps in linux that u r referring to? Do those apps work flawlessly?

If you prefer Windows, switch to 7. Also I would suggest not to use Chrome. Switch to firefox. Chrome is RAM hungry.

And yes Linux is freely available. There are various editions available. I am not qualified at it to suggest which would work best for you because I have used only Ubuntu. Let someone else answer it.

You can find OpenOffice on Linux.

Right. Try out Linux Mint. LibreOffice should work well as an Office replacement. I have not used OneNote much... I am guessing Evernote can replace it easily? Any specific requirement? Since the laptop is new... You can surely give Linux a try. If it works great, you would basically be running a completely legit machine!

What features of OneNote do you use?
