Investigative weekly Tehelka on Thursday claimed to have unravelled the truth behind the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Tehelka claimed it had 'irrefutable' evidence that the killings of Muslims post-Godhra train carnage in Gujarat was 'not a spontaneous swell of anger but a genocide' planned and executed by top functionaries of the Sangh Parivar and state authorities 'with the sanction' of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Tehelka Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal claimed that the magazine had carried out a sting operation over the last six months by talking to a number of Sangh Parivar leaders, including Godhra BJP MLA Haresh Bhatt, Shiv Sena leader Babu Bajrangi, who was earlier in the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and VHP leaders Anil Patel and Dhawal Jayanti Patel, to bring out the truth.

\"We have evidence that bombs were being made in the VHP office premises,\" Harinder Baweja, Editor (Investigations), told rediff.com.

\"In Tehelka's ground breaking investigations, for the first time, hear the truth of the genocidal killings from the men who actually did it. In shocking disclosures, Chief Minister Narendra Modi came and patted the back of criminals, and told them that they had done a good job,\" Baweja said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has reacted sharply to the magazine's report stating that Tehelka was acting as CIA (Congress Investigating Agency) and it was a collusive sting, which could hardly be called investigative journalism.
Party spokesman Prakash Javedekar said the 'dirty tricks department' of the Congress was at work again in view of the assembly elections in Gujarat.
None of the leaders caught on camera in the expose was available for comments, except Gujarat VHP leader Dhawal Jayanti Patel who said Bajrangi had not talked to him during the riots and that he had not seen the sting operation.
Bhatt was purportedly caught on tape saying he was present in a meeting in which Modi allegedly gave him three days time 'to do whatever they wanted.'
\"After three days, he (Modi) asked to stop and everything came to a halt,\" Bhatt said, adding that the chief minister thanked them after the Naroda Patiya masssacre.
The magazine claimed that Dhawal Jayanti Patel told its undercover reporter that the VHP activists made lots of bombs in a factory owned by him. A BJP MLA was shown as saying they even made rocket launchers, which were used in the pogrom.
It also claimed that it has exposed 'a trail of lies and coercions' that establishes the fire in coach S-6 of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra on February 27, 2002 was a case of spontaneous mob fury and not a pre-meditated conspiracy as stated by the Gujarat government.

1) Government lawyer admitted on hidden camera that what Narendra Modi did nobody can do............

2) I ripped open a pregnant woman's stomach: Babu Bajrangi (Ex VHP Leader now a Shiv Sena Leader) proudly admitted on Camera.............. :O


3) Modi gave protection to mastermind Bajrangi when he was arrested and also got him out of jail. Modi changed 3 judges to get me out of jail.


4) We cut Jafri into pieces and then burnt him: Madan Chhawla (VHP Leader). We cut all his body parts and then burned him purposely as its against Muslim rituals to burn the dead........

Damn can't believe such people are part of Govt, such people should also be labelled as Terrorists for slaughtering human beings, are these people even fit to be called Human beings???? ............

U know what Imran, State Sponsered Terrorism (i.e Govt sponsered Genocides be it 1984 or be it 2002) is the biggest threat our nation faces today. people like Narender Modi, Parveen Togadia, Jagdish Tytler, KPS Gill are the biggest terrorists of our country...& these are few names........i can name countless........why coz they ordered the slaughter of thousands of innocents using Govt machinery. If u know what happened in Punjab in 1980s, ur heart will cry out.Also nobody labels organanisations like Bajrang Dal, RSS as terrorist orgs while they are masterminding killings of thousands innocents.And yes, they are now making rocket launchers too.....I dont know when India will get over this mentality of blaming ISI or LeT or Babbar khalsa or LTTE for anything wrong that goes on in our country.Our Govt is full of terrorists. Only if common man were against this and knew the reality. Our Govt is expert at hiding the reality and charging people with emotions. Infact our country runs on emtional tensions b/w communities.god bless india

Mumbai Riots, Gujarat Riots are a black spot in India's history. And even though everyone was already aware and now this in-camera expose of Narendra Modi, nothing would change on ground, I am sure.

Anybody killing an innocent human being cannot be called a human being.........

I agree with skorpio 100%Carnages and genocides will continue in our country . We saw one in 1984, we saw another in 2002. There were many in between and many going on........India is killing itself, its people. Sadly in our country those who protest against the such things are easily labelleled as terrorists, militants, anti national and what not.

Ahead of polls, Gujarat riots haunt Modi-India-The Times of India

Did see the 'expose' on HT and Aaj Tak, in part. Is Aaj Tak and Headlines Today still available on cable in Gujarat? I don't think so.

Modi is going to win the election, again. The BJP cannot afford not to support him. All the talk of rebellion within the Gujarat unit is going to subside soon enough. Just a few days back, he withdrew from the Karan Thapar interview coz Thapar was pestering him on this issue. Evidently, he is uncomfortable as far as this issue goes.

The Gujarat riots are not the first and is not going to be the last one as far as India is concerned - 1984 Delhi, 1993 Mumbai, 2002 Gujarat. And a few more here and there. Each one with the active involvement or inaction of the powers-that-be. And then the justice system is subverted - evidence is either manufactured or goes missing. Why any sane person trusts the system is beyond me.

The cure, if such a thing exists, does not lie either in candle light marches or participating in elections. Both are useless as far as results go. Violence does not help either - give me one example from world history where it has. Have to say that the 'cure' is yet to be invented.

In all this, care has to be taken that 'secular' political parties don't benefit from this. The Congress, Left, Samajwadi Party and what not always play the secularism card when it suits them. They are silent when the issue of civil liberty comes along, though - curb freedom of press, ban books, ban films, ban plays, monitor phone calls and what not. They are not very different from Modi who blocked the release of Parzania in early 2007. And then, there is the entire secular brigade which will jump up at this chance.

Anyway, I am quite sure the SC will take cognizance of this development and will order the tapes to be produced before it. The shit has hit the fan. Have to see who the fall guys are going to be.

and stemming the rot in many cases of late.

Hope it gets involved here
or atleast someone comes forward to
submit a PIL and get things started.

Otherwise with Election season coming up it will be just another
poll gimmick to garner equal votes for
the Pro and Anti Secularists
Revalations like this can help both sides in Gujrat and beyond
if u look at the political implications they convey

I am sure PIL's would be filed with so much of evidence on tapes. Its the senior leaders of VHP/SS who are caught giving horrifying statements on camera.

Yes I have been reading about the timing of this expose, Gujarat Elections...... but nothing can justify what happened in 2002, a worst genocide. Godhra incident was a shame and as per Tehelka expose, it was a spontaneous Reaction by the mob but Genocide that followed was planned and executed by the people in power................

The world is moving towards success and in India we still have riots for religions/castes etc........we still have female child being abandoned, we still have women being forced Sati, we still have child marriage/child labor/child abuse and endless list of mindless things.................

Damn, is there no end to these inhuman acts by so called "Human Beings"?

If this continues, the day is not far off when India will split into numerous countries. India cannot supress its people for long. I think the world should also take notice of the previous and ongoing human right abuses in india and pressurize india to the max.
