I have been recently provided with this Modem MT882 in place of D-Link DSL 502T (which was giving frequent disconnections) after about 50 complaints. Can't connect on Windows XP with Line Speed/Duplex Mode set to Auto Negotiation. Have to set it to 10Mbps/Full Duplex in Advanced Tab of the Lan NIC configuration. No connection on Linux (Kubuntu). Don't know how to set Line Speed/Duplex Mode to 10 Mbps/Full Duplex in Linux. Now also can't connect on Vista where it was earlier connecting. In Windows XP it is giving disconnections with 10Mbps/Full Duplex mode too.My Network Card is Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.Is there any firmware upgrade of this modem or something available to help solve this problem? Please help.

why are you making those changes ( full duplex ) in your modem , its not going to make a difference in the speed!!use default settings..

@superprash2003 this setting is not for speed. Without this 10Mbps/Full Duplex I am not even able to enable LAN. My LAN NIC shows Network cable Unplugged. Therefore I cannot connect to internet. And also the LAN LED in the modem stops glowing. For me to enable LAN and connect to internet I have to enable 10Mbps/Full Duplex instead of Auto Negotiation or any other mode in the Advanced Tab in NIC configuration dialog. All this in Windows XP. But in Linux I do not know how to enable this setting. So no internet in Linux.

My modem configuration pages are not similar to that in SmartAX MT-882 ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION And I am unsure of the make of the modem. I have changed ethernet cables etc. but to no avail. Please someone help.

can you access 192.168.1.1 admin admin
select device status or summary page.
or
type in IE address bar after now opening the modem
192.168.1.1/look.html
post screen shot or give details.

@socrates Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled new LAN card drivers which is for Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller NIC i.e., RTL8111C 10/100/1000 Mb/s (and not RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet which XP setup installed). It has not yet helped.

@essbebe Yes, I can access 192.168.1.1 with admin admin.

Here is the Product Information Page

and here is the Modem Status Page

Hope this helps in identifying the problem. I have removed the MAC addresses and Serial no. due to Privacy/Security reasons. Is it okay? Please guide.

I googled and found some pages giving links to Update the router firmware which are RouterTech :: View topic - RouterTech Firmware v2.9 Release (20090415), RouterTech :: View topic - Backing up and Restoring MTNL MT882 firmware, RouterTech :: Compatible routers - TI AR7WRD platform, OpenWrt / ar7 firmware - where to get?.

Should I download and update the router with the firmware available there? Is it safe? Please suggest appropriately. I think it is a router specific problem as my old D-Link DSL 502T router at least connected on LAN and Internet on XP, Vista and even Kubuntu Linux.
