I found this page bsnl mt882 router problem with ethernet. URGENT!!! [Archive] - Digit's Technology Discussion Forum while searching for the problem. I had earlier also seen this page and enabled 10Mbps/Full Duplex mode.

From this I assume it is router firmware problem. It has MT880 firmware. Am I correct? But there is no ink for the correct firmware there. Then should I and from where should I upgrade my modem firmware? @essebebe what did you get from the screen shots? Is the firmware correct? Cannot use it even once in Linux:wall:.

Are these the correct firmwares for my modem: https://broadband.forum/bsnl-broadband/9726-huawei-smartax-mt882-latest-firmware/ Should I update from the files linked there? Which one? And how? Please guide.

Nobody? No answer? Please someone reply. How to get this modem working? Someone must be knowing in this forum.

Please wait. your modem is not MT882.will reply later this morning .for mtnl vpi/vci is 0 32 In WAN page select 'Bridged"use a dialer. enter your MTNL user ID and PW give feedback.

i presume your configuring the full duplex/half duplex just for connectivity to your modem from your pc? is that right?

Thank you for the reply posts. And sorry for the late reply. I had almost given up hope of receiving any reply.@superprash2003 yes, I am configuring the 10 Mbps/Full duplex for connectivity from my modem to my pc. This gives me a LAN connection (not any other cofiguration of 100Mbps or Auto Negotiation). Otherwise my NIC shows Network cable unplugged. For 10Mbps/Full Duplex also I have to restart (Off/On) my modem.@essbebe I also doubted this. But MT 882 and MTNL (and its logo) are printed on the modem. Are the MTNL people playing some trick on us by doing this? Inside there is another modem or firmware??Thanks for the suggestions. My VPI/VCI for MTNL is already set to 0/32 respectively. For Bridge mode I will do as you are saying and reply.

@essbebe tried bridge mode as you said but I have to enable 10Mbps/Full Duplex for that also as I need a LAN for that. But it didn't work.

Update 12:11 a.m.

Tried USB in Windows XP. It installed drivers automatically. USB connected. Could ping 192.168.1.1 and 4.2.2.1. But couldn't ping or access Google or any other site through any browser IE, Chrome, Firefox or Opera.

Same in Kubuntu Linux. Shows Network Manager and connection eth1. But cannot access sites through browser. Please note and guide.

2)I was surprised to see that LAN connected in 100Mbps mode (Green LAN LED at the back panel was visible) while I was starting Virtualbox. Its Network Adapter started and along with it my PC LAN also started. But when I put modem Off and On again LAN didn't start. Please note and guide.

i have a feeling its something to do with your pc's networking settings.. You really dont need to make any changes in your adsl modem for connectivity usually!!! Regarding the usb part , since you are able to ping those 2 ips thats good news.. You should ensure that firefox is not in offline mode . Go to File->Work offline and uncheck that. Try pinging and opening this ip 74.125.67.100

I also doubted this. But I uninstalled and reinstalled my NIC drivers. It was earlier installed and detected both by Windows XP Setup and my Motherboard (MSI 945GCM7) LAN Setup is Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. But in the Motherboard manual it was Realtek RTL8111C 10/100/1000 Mb/s. So I uninstalled the drivers, downloaded the correct one for my Onboard LAN NIC and installed them. Now it shows Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.

After doing all this the problem remained unsolved. In the meantime I registered a complaint with MTNL at 1504 that my router/modem doesn't work. I requested the CC man to send someone who knows about all this and not the poor Linesman. But again they sent the linesman to change the modem and changed the modem to , guess what, the same make (only a newer one).:madness: It is not working again.:wall:

So finally I installed a new copy of Windows XP after formatting etc. on a new drive. The LAN LED glowed but could not ping or access any site. After installing the proper LAN NIC Drivers the NIC appeared in my Network Connections window. As soon as my LAN NIC appeared , the LAN LED stopped glowing and NIC showed Network Cable Unplugged.

If there were issues with the LAN NIC drivers and then how could D-Link DSL502T (which was earlier installed, but there were frequent disconnections) detected it easily in Windows XP Vista s well as Kubuntu Linux? And from this page http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-59226.html - I guess it could be a firmware or incompatibility problem. What do you think?

Regarding USB, it is working in my new Windows XP installation. It could be that I could have plugged both LAN and USB at the same time not rebooted my PC. But it did not work in Kubuntu (Ubuntu etc.) even with USB. And firefox was not in offline mode. Lastly about pinging 74.125.67.100, I am able to do it in my new XP as I am able to surf with USB using IE, Chrome as well as Firefox. Will try it in the older XP.

But I need to use LAN. So, please guide me.:pleasehelp:

@essbebe I think from the pages in my modem it is a Beetel one. Have you guessed its make from my above screenshots?
