ok , i think i lost you again!!Old xp?new xp?? you have 2 xp versions on the same machine? or two different machines?

i have mt882 Modem & it is working proper. (No LAN/Internet Connection ) wat is this ? it is all there i m connect my 5 pc & all in lan & all come net.plz tell me ur propar problam i m help u .pm me Thank you

@essebebe thanks for taking time to find out and reply. I think your ref 1. giving this link How to change your password for broadband access points rightly to my modem.

For your ref 2. there is only one difference i.e., MTU instead of MRU.

For ref 3. I will surely try to implement it. But for D-Link DSL502T the default network settings worked very well.

Update: USB connection now works in Kubuntu Linux. And so does the internet. But no LAN connection is detected with MT882 LAN port plugged to PC in Linux.

For ref 4. the guide says UT Star 304R2U is compatible with Ethernet port only. But my modem is compatible with USB port too, in fact only USB is working.

In short my LAN goes off whenever I start XP with the MT882 attached through LAN cable - Network Cable Unplugged; have to set NIC configuration to 10Mbps/Full Duplex. In Vista it works. In Linux (Kubuntu) it doesn't. I don't know how to configure LAN NIC to use 10Mbps, will read your ref.

@superprash2003 actually I installed another XP on the Same Machine just to check whether there are any conflicts of the ethernet drivers with other software in my Older (working) XP. So now I have 2 XPs, Vista and Kubuntu. After correcting the Vista boot menu Newer XP startup gives hal.dll error - have to correct it. Others work well. Thanks.

@rahul_7860 Thanks. Good to hear that someone else has the same modem and it works well. But mine doesn't. Actually as you can see from this and the earlier posts my LAN is not working with this modem. I will PM you.

But no LAN connection is detected with MT882 LAN port plugged to PC in Linux.

1.You are adding to the confusion.

Why refer Mt882 when your modem is Ut300r2
But my modem is compatible with USB port too
This has ONLY LAN port. NO USB
UT-300R2 ADSL MODEM MENU

2.Too many :4OS/ 2 modems/ usb/Lan combinations in one thread.!
2 to the power of 4 ??= 16 possibilities ???//

3. Post Device status of the modem you use Utxxxxxx MT 882 not needed.

@superprash2003 no no, usb IS now working in all OSes, I said it is also working in Linux making the modem usable in Linux, but with USB. Don't know why it earlier didn't work - probably should have given it more time. But I want modem to work in LAN mode in XP and Linux.

@essbebe sorry if I have been confusing or too much elaborate. Actually I just want to make my modem work through LAN in XP and Linux. But it isn't working that way. That's all.

Why refer Mt882 when your modem is Ut300r2

Just because MT 882 printed on the modem. OK I won't refer it as MT882. MTNL makes it confusing.

This has ONLY LAN port. NO USB
UT-300R2 ADSL MODEM MENU

My modem has a USB port.

Now the Device/Modem Status etc:

Hope this helps in identifying the problem. Thank you.

Modem UT300r2: Lan port and USB port model.
IN the screen shots both ethernet and USB buttons shown as selected.
In last two USB button is not selected.

Post ONLY screen shot as given in Step 2 here. with LAN connection
How to change your password for broadband access

Did you allot a new IP for Ethernet connection.
Usually 192.168.1.1 for ethernet card use
and 192.168.1.2 for usb connection.

Ensure both USB and Ethernet cables are not connected to same computer.

Recheck:
Start /network/ LAN
properties.
Network connections.
On top
whether the ethernetrnet card ( realtek) is listed.
configure.
Is it enabled ?
do trouble shooting again.

Thanks for identifying the modem correctly.

IN the screen shots both ethernet and USB buttons shown as selected.
In last two USB button is not selected.

I selected both these buttons one by one just to have a look at the data. You can see that the ethernet data has only zeroes, only data filled being Error Frames = 30. USB and DSL statistics both show some data.

Now screenshot for Step 2 in How to change your password for broadband access page:

Did you allot a new IP for Ethernet connection.
Usually 192.168.1.1 for ethernet card use
and 192.168.1.2 for usb connection.

No I did not change anything in the IP settings.

And only USB cable is connected between my PC and modem. Ethernet cable is connected to PC but disconnected from modem. (I have connected USB cable only recently).

Yes, checked again. Realtek Ethernet card is listed. It is enabled but shows Network Cable Unplugged. Have already configured to use static IP. Have done all the troubleshooting again. No help.

And only USB cable is connected between my PC and modem.
(*DISCONNECT)
Presume it is connected to USB port of computer.
Ethernet cable is connected to PC but disconnected from modem. (*CONNECT)
(I have connected USB cable only recently)

Open Network:
Show all connections
(Your USB LAN will be disabled )
Select LAN realtek.
properties
TCP/IP
enter 192.168.1.10
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

DNS:

MTNL DNS or
opendns
208.67.220.220
208.67.222.222
Apply save.
Now access the modem settings with ethernet/LAN connected.
VPI/VCI 0 and 32 for MTNL.

UT-300R2 ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION
Ignore step 12.

And only USB cable is connected between my PC and modem.
(*DISCONNECT)
Presume it is connected to USB port of computer.
Ethernet cable is connected to PC but disconnected from modem. (*CONNECT)
(I have connected USB cable only recently)

That is the problem - if I CONNECT Ethernet and DISCONNECT USB I cannot post here i.e., I cannot connect to Internet, I cannot even access the router configuration page (192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2). Actually there is no Ethernet even when Ethernet cable is plugged between Modem and PC. Realtek NIC still shows Network Cable Unplugged. And yes, USB cable is plugged to USB port of my PC.

Update:
Now connected through Ethernet but in 10Mbps/Full Duplex mode for the Ethernet. This I CANNOT do in Linux.

I did everything as you told me to do. But problem is that there is not even any Ethernet connection if I do not configure the Ethernet NIC Properties to use 10Mbps/Full Duplex/Half Duplex. Nothing when it is in Auto Negotiation or 100Mbps mode in the Advanced Tab of the NIC configuration. Any guesses why?
