The Windows Phone 7.8 handset combines a 3.7-inch WVGA (800 x 480) ClearBlack AMOLED display with an 8-megapixel rear shooter that captures video at a rather paltry VGA (640 x 480) resolution. The Lumia 505 includes just 256MB of RAM -- another sign of its low-end aspirations -- along with 4GB of internal storage and a 1,300mAh battery.

Nokia Lumia 505 gets official for Telcel in Mexico

I don't understand the purpose of 8MP camera in this low cost phone unless and until people there in Mexico are so camera freaks. Instead, 8GB internal memory or 512 MB RAM would have been fine.Or they are simply playing cards on basic marketing principles. Attract people by offering single very strong feature which competition misses on similarly priced products. For Nokia 510, its 4" screen and for this phone, it seems to be 8MP camera.

i am assuming that sensor costs more than the actual camera lens. and maybe they ordered shit load of units for higher end models which did not sell well. so they decided to use the same lens in this budget segment model? lol.

No. This is a complete different sensor and lens on this phone, a first one on any Lumia and first one on any Nokia product too if I am not wrong. They have always used Carl Zeiss optics and Toshiba and Sharp sensors for 8MP and higher modules and even for 5MP sometimes. This is the first non Carl Zeiss branded one I am seeing. I assume sensors will also be in house made like on their 5MP and lower modules. Read similar thing on another blog that they have never used anything other than Carl Zeiss and Toshiba/Sharp for 8MP and higher cameras.

Another sad flick by Nokia... -_-They just don't understand...world is moving in gigs of RAM and storage...and this firm is still stuck in MBs

Sorry to say but I just felt like slapping you hard, wake you up from your dream world and see outside it. No offense bro but get some real.

The last time I checked, smartphone penetration is around 50% in US and EU, around 7% in India and similar single digit in many other countries.

Nokia, Samsung, LG (let alone tons of Chinese and local vendors) continue to launch feature phones and entry level phones for various markets without the specs what you think world is moving in..

Take a look at no contact bestsellers at Amazon US.

And tell me how many phone you see with gigs of RAM and storage and all goodies you thing whole world is moving in..

Note that I wouldn't have posted this if smartphone penetration was much higher than this (understand that I simply mean smartphone.. let alone those with gigs of RAM) OR Nokia was only manufacturing these feature or entry level smartphones OR it was a sole manufacturer to do so.
Clearly you are not getting these three things.

There are many phones who have more than 256MB of RAM....If you are considering a platform like Windows 7X phones...then you are bound to provide more than the required specificaations to satisfy the customer's perspective....FACTS don't matter when a consumer buys..he doesn't pity the company while buying a phone...All he sees "is that phone having RAM quad core processor and at what rate im i getting it??"....He doesn't see how much company's hold in NIFTY/SENSEX...atleast not anymore!! :|

Nokia has 920 at the top of their product range to cater to high end of the market. They have phones targeting all the segments. This is a budget segment phone. Not every phone has to compete against the iPhone or the S3 or the Note 2 or the One X+.

Yea..but my point is...this phone will be priced at what..9K suppose..There are many others who are offering way good specs compared to this one...Yes i do agree its a WP one..but still as i said only few people who know what its like to hold a WP phone will buy...And those people are also getting reduced i guess!!
