5)i have pc suite to connect to computer. and i dont have any dongle.

changing the ssid hasnt worked.. i will tell u wat happens.
after i changed the ssid my phone detected and showed me the changed name network. i connected by giving the wep key and it gets connected. but when i start browsing
1) first thing that appears is connecting via "my ssid " with an equillibrium sign (just that its vertical and not horizontal like in chemistry)
2) then the web browser loads but data transfer shown is 0 kb.
3) finally no gateway reply !

Everything looks ok. The only concern is the WEP security, just disable it and check. Also change the encryption to 128 bit and give password as 1231231231231.

I assume your both LAN and Wifi are working at the same time

ya.. my laptop is getting fine with the web and browsing .. all problems are with my N81. at my friends place i was able to use my phone for browsing.. but not able to at my home...

Soumya,As i already said Everything looks ok, the Wep security you may be putting wrong as the phone keypad is alpha-numeric, better give 128 encryption numeric security key. As suggested you can even remove security and see if the browsing happens in N81.

Summary:
Modem sl2 141. wif router.
Laptop Ok in LAN and WIfi mode.
"Always On connection.
N81 does not connect to Internet and surf .
Works OK in friend's wifi set up.

Start RUN type cmd type ipconfig /all ( * note space after ipconfig )

go to 192.168.1.1 and under DHCP clients does it list your Nokia phone?? if not its mostly because your nokia phone isnt getting an ip.. thats mostly the issue cause you are already in pppoe mode
