nokia n81 and bsnl broadband

hello, i just got an n81 and was trying to connect to the wlan. My laptop gets connected via wlan but my cell phone doesn. though every time i refresh it gets connected to the network but when i start browsing i get "No gateway reply".My cell is working fine because i got connected via bsnl broadband (dont know who's as he dint had any security setting enabled :hysterical: ). so i think certain setting is required.my setting include wep key and when connected to wireless i require to put the bsnl's provided username and password.thankssoumya

Soumya,Do let me know how are you connecting the net on your laptop, as you say "when connected to wireless i require to put the bsnl's provided username and password", it looks like you are using Dial up to connect to interenet i.e Bridge mode in your Modem. You have to change it PPPOE in the modem settings and give the username and password in the modem setting page as this setting will show up once you select PPPOE and then connect from your phone. Also in phone you have to type in the WEP Key if it is not asking.

t5hanks armaan for replyn to me. well i am using plan 250 were i get 1gb free. well i may not have been clear so i l explain step by step

step 1: i switch my modem on.
step 2: my laptop ask for wep key which when provided get the laptop connected to the wireless network.
step 3:then via laptop i have to give broadband user name and password
step 4: i get the message broadband is now connected

when i am using lan that via my pc step 3 is common.

now my cell fone does look for wep key, gets the wireless but when i start browsing i get "no gateway reply", when i got connection i was aked to setup this..

now my queston is that when i went to my friend place my cell found bsnl network. that person probably hadnt used any security measures like wep encryption, no password to connect.i was also able to surf. so wat setting do i need to keep??

Soumya,
open http://192.168.1.1 and give the username and password it will be username: admin password: admin ( you should have used this before as you have given WEP key set for your Modem). Go to Advance setup and select WAN and edit the settings there. You have to edit only the setting for which the VPI & VCI values are 0 & 35.Press Edit and you will see setting page. Select the connection type as PPPoE and click on the next button (Once the setting page is opened you shud see that page, if the first is not diplaying that just click next).Once you have selected PPPoE the next page it will ask for username and password do give your bsnl broadband username and password and click next. Dont change anything and keep pressing the button next till you save. Then click save and also there will be a button which says Save and reboot click that and you are done. Once the modem is rebooted internet is connected automatically you dont need to connect via Dial up. Then you can start browsing on N81. In PPPoE you can use multiple connections like LAN, Wifi and your phone all at the same time.

does your internet work as soon as you switch on your modem or do you use a dialer to connect to the internet?

@ armaan: the way u mentioned is letting my PC connect, without username and password, to the internet. now again since my connection provided by BSNL entitles me of just one machine using the net at the time thats ehy my laptop isnt getting connected (via wireless). And the problem with my cell still remains.@ superprash : after the method armaan mentioned the net gets connected and i neednt put user name and dialup. but before i need to do that....thanks bro for ur time.:thumb:regardssoumya

Soumya,It should have connected for your Wireless also, just make sure both your Lan and Wifi is been assigned for the ip address. Lan adapter and Wifi are been assigned wit ip addresses or you have selected "Obtain the ip address automatically". Do assign Lan 192.168.1.2 and for Wifi give 192.168.1.3, Subnet mask will come automatically and default gateway give 192.168.1.1 and give DNS Servers Primary DNS Address 208.67.222.222 Secondary DNS Address 208.67.220.220 Phone :- May be a restart will help.

well you need to change that.. your currently in bridged mode , if you want internet on your phone , you need to change it to pppoe mode..
