I think BSNL is trying hard to either go out of the market or recover all lost revenue (*cough* maran cable *cough*) . The sad thing is BSNL is almost like a monpoly in many parts of southern india. Even last week my friend called tata over some landline BB in our area and they said , our area cant be serviced
