We are yet to see which 5G bands will telecom operators use in India. If they go with the N41 and the N78 bands, the OnePlus 9 users will be in luck. If the telecom companies decide to use any other bands apart from the N41 and the N78, it will be a huge bummer for the OnePlus 9 users in the country as they won’t be able to experience the 5G network.
...
OnePlus isn’t the only brand that is offering support for only two 5G bands with its smartphones. The Vivo X60, X60 Pro, and the X60 Pro+ also support only two 5G bands. There are many other brands that are opting for this strategy.

Only Samsung and Apple don’t seem to be compromising in this aspect. The recently launched Galaxy S21 Ultra supports as many as 13 5G bands in India including N1, N3, N5, N7, N8, N20, N28, N66, N38, N40, N41, N77, N78. The same is the case with the iPhone 12 series smartphones.

Well the thing is same phone in the US supports many bands than in India with the same hardware. I don't understand the hardware limitation. Or is it the OnePlus way of saying , you bought phone now die with it. Can someone throw some light on this ?

I guess apart from processor (which is Snapdragon), there may be 5G modem and/or Antennas which plays some part in supporting various 5G bands.
For Indian region, OnePlus and other Chinese vendors selling low cost 5G phones may be compromising on these hardware to bring down costs.
Samsung and Apple has their own hardware, so they might be supporting more wider 5G bands.

But isnt the license taken from Qualcomm for the X55 modem(QC) and chip uniform for all countries. ??
Btw Apple uses X55 modem(or whichever latest) for the Radio. They are still in the making of their own.
The phone 8T as I see is more or less the same on all markets. Just big guys like Amazon giving a 1-2k discount on credit card here

I am sure license are not global and may be varying region wise. Also license cost might be changing based on what hardware is going to support (like 5G band support). Considering India is cost sensitive markets, smartphone makers would try to bring costs down.
I was not aware that iPhone also has X55 modem, but I like this thing of Apple that they don't discriminate regions and offer same hardware worldwide. iPhones support more 4G bands and carrier aggregation compared to any other handsets even on models launched in India.
Even Samsung sells Exynos processor flagship models in India and many countries, while US, Korea and some countries gets Snapdragon processor models.
