yes they may be in tracert path but that doesnt mean ur system is using them as DNS too. it indicates that BSNL also uses them as a gateway somewhere in their systems

Another method-
open your cmd.exe and type nslookup Yahoo!

you will get a reply like this-

Server: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: Yahoo!
Address: 69.147.114.210
Aliases: Yahoo!

which will confirm what dns you are using.

thanks sunny, I tried it, and it shows opendns as the resolver.I just want to know if using OpenDNS servers is good, my ping times to the OpenDNS servers are around 200ms, but the ping times to the BSNL DNS servers are MUCH faster (~15 ms), so which one to stick to?

Thats for you to decide, even tho the ping times are much slower, its the resolution times that matter.Try and see which brings up a page quicker. I've been using Open DNS for some time now as its more powerful and can resolve faster than my ISPs DNS.

i wud say BSNL server resolution may be fast but OpenDNS wud make ur surfing safe, much safer than, if u use BSNL server. and few milisecond wud not save u more than a minute or 2 in a day.

here, bsnl servers sometimes just dont work.. they require you to refresh two or three times..sometimes it doesnt even respond.i used to think there was something wrong with the connection

Well what the guys said above stands true. I also recommend you to sign up for free account and take use of excellent features it offers like -

Phishing Protection
Usage Statistics
Adult Site Blocking (if you have kids at home)
Domain Blocking

I am using it since 6 months when many popular websites were not opening due to BSNL's DNS server was unable to reslove them and I have no speed issues using it.

Open DNS is updated faster than my ISPs servers.

So when certain web sites change providers the newer IP resolves faster rather than giving you site not found.

if the ISP could do the job properly there is really no reason to go with a 3rd party provider, that too one on the other end of the globe!

Since most of use openDNS as our DNS, is it creating issues for ourselves ?

Let me try to put a simple way (hope am not making it difficult)

Suppose Users A,B,C,D & E are from same city using 59.x.x.x IP !

Everyone is using OpenDNS and they are using their service to maximum. That is, they block some sites too !

User A blocking Microsoft.com
user B blocking broadbandforum.co
User C blocking youtube.com
same way user D and E blocking other sites !

Since our IP changes, it wont get updated automatically unless we use Dns-O-matic software or update manually!

Think after a router restart, if User A gets IP of User B previously had and User B gets a new ip

So, according to openDNS, broadbandforum.co is blocked for that IP
Will User A be able to browse broadbandforum.co if he forgets to update DNS?

May be funny to many ! Since OpenDNS is widely used, it can happen right ? Because i update my IP when my other friends starts streaming ! youtube,link-removed and other few sites will be blocked during that time.. !!

any thoughts ??
