thats why u need software which automatically updates ur IP, everytime it changes, using ur passwd and hence that prob wont occur. but if u dont use software obviously site blocked by earlier user wont work.

so.. if you just tell one user to put OpenDNS numbers, (s)he wont be even knowing what are the other things happening. (S)He may not even have registered at OpenDNS ! !

i do not like or use opendns coz it hijacks searches made through the address bar on firefox.

yes then that person wud have problems. but if something is wrong, person normally d/c and reconnects. and (s)he wud get new IP and prob wud be solved.

frankly speaking i noticed a couple of times updates.microsoft.com was banned. i searched in my blocked list, and i couldnt find that. Later i found, it was because of opendns settings given by someone else. I changed the IP by restarting router, and updated my ip in opendns !

Yeah.. i too dont like hijacking address bar. Normally google is set for me (both in ie n firefox). Now opendns started the search ! On another hand, the good thing is, you can point "mail" to "mail.yahoo.com" and next time just type mail in address bar, and you get mail.yahoo.com page :P

+1 The same reason for which i avoid OpenDNS. Dnsmasq suits fine for me...

Eventbrite - Celebrate SysAdmin Appreciation Day and OpenDNS's 2nd Birthday!

Event Details
We're getting together to celebrate the wonderful people who make the Internet work every day because lets face it, SysAdmins get little recognition the other 364 days of the year. We're also celebrating OpenDNS's 2-year birthday because like SysAdmins, we make the Internet safer, faster, smarter and more reliable.

We'll have music, goodies, and the company of the coolest SysAdmins in the Bay Area. Heck, we'll even throw in free drinks :)

We're inviting SysAdmins, NetOps and BOFHs along with friends of OpenDNS, so leave your Ethernet loopback jacks at home because there will be no troubleshooting here!
if anyone from CA, join them :)
