I have Sony 40" V Bravia. In order to get a better video, I had connected my BigTv stb to the LCD with component cable. But got no better quality than the composite cable. Since the price difference was too much (more than IRS 1500), I changed to composit. In fact the picture quality was bit weak than the normal cable.

Due to signal problem I am now using SunDirect with composit cable.

Do we really get better picture with component cable?

In my experience there will be very little differeance between composite and component.

hi

you certainly seem to be knowledgble about this...
i have Sony bravia 32 inch Vseries 18 months old....
Tata Sky quality is bad...the video is pixelated and ghosts and artifects are visible....should i jump to ts+ for better quality? is it worth?
also in some forums..there is a buzz that tatasky(not tatasky+)has started providing new black stbs with component outs for new subscribers...if i get it should i buy it for better picturequality??
wht other option i shld consider if i want to change my DTH provider??
a reply will be very much appreciated.....

I have both Sun direct and Tata Sky +
TV: Sony high end (X, signature series) 40" LCD TV.
My experience is different with SUN vs Tata Sky and Sun vs Tata sky+

Sun Direct video quality is better compared to Tata Sky
but Tata SKY+ video scores over Sun direct anyday with its vivid colors.

The difference may be due to the component video out available from SKy+ STB. My Sun STB does not have a component video out but I experimented with S video which is no way better than the composite connection.

Sun Direct STB has an option for 576P and Tata sky+ has only 576i still SKY+ video quality is better, I think the vivid colors through the component video does the trick.
I have experimented with upscaling both videos to 1080P using my Onkyo AV reciever but the analog upscaling provided in Onkyo is known to be bad. So the picture quality only degrades. I need to look at Denon 2310 with Athreos processor may give a better video.

I could do instant comparison of both since I am using a Logitech Harmony 900 which switch over between this in a single touch. So comparison is very easy..
regards,
Tomy

though you are asking thomas only but still I am replying. you will end disappointed if you think changing from ts to ts+ will give better quality. it is same for everyone who thinks using component instead of composite output going to increase the quality to justify even few 100rs.

but isnt it that it is scientifically proved fact that component cables are much better than composite?

Even I have a Sony Bravia 40" V-series Full HD LCD. I primarily bought it for my PS3. I have not got myself a DTH connection because I read somewhere that the picture quality won't be good. Is it not possible to connect your DTH STB to the LCD with an HDMI cable rather than a composite or a component cable?

it should be better than composite. but in the case of TS or SD or any others you won't find differeance. try and see what happens. all the best.
