Plan change provisioned. But no speed change.

Hi,

My plan is changed from upto 2Mbps(FN500 Combo) to 4Mbps(ULF900) plan.
SNR values have changed. Old SNR Downstream was around 23 and new one is around 17.

Even though new plan was provisioned, in Device Info was showing downstream rate is 2Mbps. Had to call exchange to upgrade the speed.
Speed is varying a lot. Getting around 1Mbps most of the time. Had to call their bangalore internet centre office to show them the issue. They said everything is fine at their end and SNR for my IP address is shown as 25 in their system.
I think becuase of line fault, i am getting lower & fluctuating speed.

Thanks for the post. I think your change is SNR values may have nothing to do with the plan change because your sync speed in the modem is essentially the same, i.e 2 Mbps. It may be due to a faulty line, or may be rain etc I guess...My house is 3.5 km away from CO and I had an attenuation of 44.5 and SNR around 15 (in ADSL2 mode, in ADSL2+ mode it was even worse) and I was in the 500 combo plan. I was able to get as high as 2 Mpbs download and and most time it was above 1.5 Mbps. The line rate was set at 1999 Kbps down and 838 kbps up in the modem. The change to ULF 900 was provisioned yesterday (sunday) and I dont see any change in speed or on the line rate. I even rebooted the modem. I also confirmed by the plan change by noticing that I am no longer charged for after 8.00 AM data usage. I might leave it as it is without calling CC as I am already running on the low side of the SNR and attenuation....to me 2 Mbps is good enough and would like to keep the connection stable. Still 900 ULF is a better plan for me than 500 combo.

In your case though, you have a more room for stable 4 Mbps connection in terms of SNR. I would think you need to call CC and have them change the line rate of your modem to 4 Mbps. I am not sure if it is done from the CO or the technician needs to come your home. The 4 Mbps plan is fairly new plan and I think all modems with old connection are set with with a max of 2 Mbps line rate, regardless of the speed of the plan (I know some one who has a 512 Kbps connection, still have line rate of 2 Mbps, but his download speed is only 512 Kbps, may be throttled at that). Therefore, BSNL may have the ability to throttle at a lower speed than the sync speed, and i am not sure if they can increase the sync speed remotely...please update if you have any...Thanks

BTW, did your SNR went down after provisioning to the new 4 Mbps plan or after you called the exchange to increase the port speed? What line rate you have now in your modem info? Is it still 2 Mbps or 4 Mbps? if it is changed 4 Mbps currently, did the technician come or they did it remotely? Thanks
 
BSNL have updated downstream rate to 4Mbps. This needs to be done remotely in their data centre.
Yes my SNR came down after downstream rate was changed to 4Mbps.
SNR was around 28 when rate was 2Mbps. SNR is 21 now when rate is 4Mbps.

I called exchange for increasing my port speed. Once provisioning happens, exchange people send an email to their data centre (NOC) for increasing port speed.
Guys if you are facing any problem with speeds where in BSNL exchange guys cannot help then please send an email to [email protected] (broadband multip play NOC)
I believe these guys are maintaining data centre and a guy from NOC was telling me that they get over 1000 emails for increasing port speed from BSNL employees.
These guys receive request from all india. You can also send an email if you are having any issues with speed.

Now speedtest.net shows around 800kbps speed. When downloading multiple files using DAP, downloading happens at 300KBPS. But some times speed drops to 10KBPS and then again it starts picking up.
