Too bad Mamta is now the CM of Bengal. Would not be in Parliament for the entertainment after May 16th.

Thing is, once you have more seats and you feel there is a chance it might go down upon any forced re-election, then keeping those seats intact becomes a priority, plus you might get ahem some "benefits" for your "state" (of mind).

If Modi does get clear majority, Mamta can say goodbye to treats from the central government.

Its a gamble parties, have to take. They may not get enough seats if they ally before (loosing votebanks) and sometimes alliances also mean you stand in less number of seats so though a chance of winning more seats as a combine is there, as an individual party you might end up getting lesser than intended. Also you allow a party with almost no presence to enter (Of course assuming the other party would ask to contest in a few seats)
Once having taken the no alliance stand, they need to maintain till the voting is over...

Nitish will probably have to ally with the RJD/Congress just for power. Or try & show progress and stay alone & be like BJD...
