I am a long time user of Dataone but a new user of this forum. Kudos to the OPs for starting such a useful forum.

Here is my problem, like in the other thread BSNL does seem to strangle night-time traffic. For the past two weeks, my 'LINK' connection in the modem (MT841) goes-off and just gets connected occasionally for a few seconds - especially from 1 am to 8 am.

I am not sure if it a hardware (modem) problem nor a physical line problem since it is OK during the day-time. So, the only thing should be something from the ISP's side.

My DNS (as suggested by the CSR):
218.248.240.24
218.248.240.208

Please let me know your thoughts. Should I change my modem (2 years old)?

Thanks guys.

So do u experience any sort of connectivity issues after the link comes up? If the modem is working fine, then there is no need to change it. Huawei modems are known to start acting weird when they heat up. Check whether the modem is overheating...

For the few seconds the 'LINK' comes-up there is hardly any data-transfer since it gets disconnected with those few seconds (max 30 sec to 1 min connected) during nights. But in the day time it works fine with ~250kbps transfer (in Flashget).The modem is just warm because I keep it ON all the time, and it is inside an AC room.

I schedule such that the tasks are repeated every 10 mins. So even if the link goes down in between the transfers, within 10 mins of the link appearing back, it gets connected automatically and resumes the usage.

Thanks cool_techie. But as I have stated before, the LAN connection is still ON, but the 'LINK' in the modem goes off. So when ever the 'LINK' comes alive (for less than a minute) there is data transfer (

Sounds as if your ISP turns of the switch..:redface:which really can't be the cause... still have you reported this to BSNL?:)

/members/rajudevi/When you lose Internet connection does the phone work ? get dial Tone Is it noisy ?Can you report SNR and Attn data both day time as well as night time ?Presume all phones are connected AFTER the splitter.

essbebe - I haven't tried the dial tone thing yet. But I use a Uniden 5.6GHz cordless phone with clarity boost and do not get 'noise' even if it is pouring outside. ATTN lights-up only when the 'LINK' is ON and I don't get Attn during the nights but it is fine after 8 a.m. Ofcourse the phone is connected after the splitter!

As asked by essbebe please report the data.:)

Well, I was not sure how to calculate the SNR - I was just seeing the lights blink. Neither this post was answered completely to check the SNR margin. In the STATUS tab, I see only:
System log ->shows "syslog: ADSL Link Up Dn/Up 2048/256Kbps (G.DMT)"
Diagnostics ->shows "Testing -> PASS"
Statistics ->shows "Packets transferred"

Can you please 'guide' me thru to check the SNR and Attenuation margin? I am using HuaweiMT841 modem. Thanks
