@members/rajudevi/
I had given you the settings in my MT882 modem for comparison.
In your setup all fine during day and problem only in the night disconnections frequent. That is why the problem is tricky. Even otherwise ATTN is quite high
and should have affected your d/l speed.
I have tested my two ISP's diff telephone lines and two different modems and there is difference in SNR ATTN figures.
Para two :
Please try this and give feed back. In modem what is the BSNL IP shown. 59.92.xx.xx ? Does it change in the night or same ?
Start/Network/Lan/properties/TCP/IP properties select dns.
enter open dns 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222.

Why is it not advisable essbebe?
ADSL filters explained
extracts.

Because PSTN and ADSL systems operate at different frequencies, they can be carried though the same wire pair at the same when the operating conditions are right. Voice calls operate between 300Hz and 3.4KHz, and include also DC power (0-72V DC at on-hook condition, typically 0-60 mA current and lower voltage at on-hook) and rign voltage (typically 40-80 V AC at 20-25 Hz freuquency). The voice telephone system is matched to 600 ohm (or close to it) impedance at voice frequencies. ADSL technology operates between 26KHz and 1.1 MHz and is designed for around 100 ohms impedance
ADSL filters explained
Tips:
* All phones or other equipment must pass through a filter.
* Make sure that the ADSL signal is only passing through one Filter / Splitter.
* It can be the same Filter / Splitter for all of the phones.

Dear essbebe
thanks for the links.
Though what i have suggested was with experience.
There are known/reported problems of phones (especially cordless ones) interfering with DSL signal even with a splitter/filter.
If technology is there it is by no means can error free in 100% cases.
Here is a link with a person facing a problem with a similar phone but is somewhat the other way round. DSL interfering with 5.8ghz phone even with line filter | Ask Metafilter

Attn is high only on the upload indicating (way higher than download) that downloads wont be affected much. Attenuation in download is also a indication of ones distance from the DSLAM. [formulae Dist frm DSLAM = Attn Dn/13.81 (in wire length Km)].
This is a physical setup problem as SNR Margin is not too good also.
:)
Get in touch with BSNL ASAP.

@rajudevi 1. Try one more Splitter in series for the phone line OR
2. Phoneline ===>>splitter1===>>AdslPort===>>>Splitter2===>AdslPort===Rj11==>>to modem. ( never tried myself !)
3. You have to contact BSNL for line check to reduce the attn values anyway.
Whatever is discussed here does not clarify, HOW in daytime your Internet connection is Ok inspite of low SNR and high attn figures.
Check speed at speedtest.net mumbai server now and at night.
Note the IP's allotted to you also.

and include also DC power (0-72V DC at on-hook condition, typically 0-60 mA current and lower voltage at on-hook) and rign voltage (typically 40-80 V AC at 20-25 Hz
MODEM input line SHOULD NOT BE CONNECTED DIRECT TO THE TELEPHONE JUNCTION BOX. THERE SHOULD BE A SPLITTER.

I'm not too sure if you'll have 2 splitters.
But Contact BSNL and ask them to get another one for you to try.:)

I think we all finally agree that its physical line problem.:D

@mac two splitters for the modem bad idea !
Make sure that the ADSL signal is only passing through one Filter / Splitter.
Worst case scenerio no Internet connection !

I would never even recommend 2 splitters for the phoneline also.
Maybe some thing different to try.
But not a probable answer.
more over those Filters and our splitters are a little different.

I would say for the time being contact BSNL. let them do the line testing.:)

PS: Don't rely on that other forum. There answers are not very accurate. Also their physical setup is different than ours. I'll tell you in detail in private if you want. here it would only create confussion;)

hmm..thanks essbebe.
I'm sure it took a lot of patience to get that data.:cool2:
Going by the data will you recommend rajudevi to try with another modem/ or maybe try a different modem make?

I won't mind atleast for trying once she is through with BSNL support.
What say?:)

I too have to agree with essbebe. I have used three modems on my telephone line and 3 modems gave different SNR and attenuation values. The highest SNR i got was with my first modem MT880, which gave me 42dB. UTStar 300R2U gave me 36dB and now UTStar 300R2 is giving me 30dB. :(

Different SNRM? "Signal to noise margin"
How about attenuation?:D
