HelloI am BSNL broadband subscriber since its launch in my town i.e. from 2005. I am on dataone domain.I was using Home 1800 plan till last month. After a lot of struggle with admin and technical staff I was switched to Business 2000 (upto 8Mbps speed) plan during this month. Still I am struggling to get upto 8Mbps speed. My ADSL modem saw download speed only 2048kbps which was when my home plan was active.I consult BSNL local technical staff again and try to explain my matter. As per my assumption as I am on dataone (may be NIB 1) I can not get speed more than 2Mbps. I have given them option if they want to change my user id or domain to bsnl.co.in (On to NIB 2) I never mind. But they people are not convincing with me and try to explain me that in your exchange this speed is not possible. Because of this even though in my admin screen I can see business plan with speed upto 8Mbps I am not getting speed higher than 1.6Mbps.I can understand practically 8Mbps speed is not possible but at least my ADSL modem should detect it to understand that they have assigned me required bandwidth. Is any technical person can guide me to explain BSNL officials to proper way for my problem solution? Thanks in advance....

Try logging into your modem interface by typing 192.168.1.1 on any browser and please look at the speed at which u r getting synced with the exchange. It should be found under modem status tab. Is it displaying 2048kbps or 8192kbps in the downstream entry?

Yes, that's right.

They need to increase your link speed. Exchange dosen't support 8 Mbps speed? What the hell is that?
Your exchange is from dinosaur age or what? :P

My ADSL modem saw download speed only 2048kbps which was when my home plan was active. As I stated I came to know that my quota of 8Mbps has not been assigned after checking by logging onto my ADSL modem admin section. It still shows download stream as 2048kbps.In fact any BSNL official or network technical can guide me what exactly I can suggest to local BSNL official to implement my speed quota.

your telephone line is connected to a DSLAM port at local exchange & this is where speed caps are set so the speed cap must be set at 8mbps at your DSLAM port at local exchange.tell them about this & hopefully they should be able to do something.as for exchange not supporting speeds that is not true.it maybe possible that due to bad line you may get 3-4 mbps on a 8mbps line but once speed cap is set at 8mbps at DSLAM port modem will sync at around 8mbps with modem.

Absolutely this term (DSLAM) was indicated by BSNL official. He said they have 32 ports DSLAM whereas for 8Mbps speed they require 128 port DSLAM.
I really appreciate your answer because it is pointing toward my problem and I expect exact solution from you.
Is this may be true that they requore 128 port DSLAM?

I dont know whether 8 mbps connection require 128 port DSLAM. If its true then why are you paying for 8 mbps connection when you are getting only 2 mbps speed.

In fact I was updated for 8Mbps plan this month and I am struggling to make speed 8Mbps with officials which I need.

I think that this is not true because in my modem settings it shows me the downstream line rate as 8190 kbps whereas I am on Home UL 750.How is this possible according to your theory?

The older DSLAMs are clocked to run at 2048kbps ONLY. The newer NIB 2 machinery is clocked to run at 8190kbps (but the speed is limited to 2048kbps or 8190kbps according to the plan opted by the subscriber). So unless they install the newer NIB 2 machinery on your exchange, u wont get the 8mbps speeds. Usually exchanges now have both the NIB1 and NIB2 machinery. The older subscribers are on NIB1 and the newer connections are given through the NIB2 machinery. Someday they plan to shift the old subscribers too to the newer machinery.
