I was about to buy this modem and i asked the seller question that speed of this modem on official site is upto 3.6, how can you claim 7.2 in your ebay listing ?
He replied that currently its 3.6 but in future it can be increased to 7.2 via firmware upgradation process. That guy claims himself as 3g modem specialist as well.

eBay India: Micromax MMX310G 3G usb modem Data Card 7.2Mbps (item 270654740009 end time 25-Nov-2010 09:31:01 IST)

What i need to know, is it really possible to increase speed limit like this via firmware upgrade ?
And if it was possible then why is bsnl selling 2 different modems for 3.6 and 7.2 ? Wudn't everyone just buy 3.6 modem and upgrade its firmware to increase speed upto 7.2 ?

i would believe that the hardware has the support the higher speeds. and bsnl network has to be upgraded to offer the higher speeds as well?

Why dont u go for a Huawei modem which is of the same price and higher quality..The same seller has it I guess....And why would Micromax sell a 3.6Mbps modem at the price of 7.2 one? Its not even logical...And even if its possible why you want to take any chances?Better thing to do is at the same price get a 7.2Mbps modem straight!

Problem is Huawei E1750 does not work here in pune, and its been common problem with many users in maharashtra. I have already tried huawei E1750. Not tried other models of huawei, so cant say.Another problem in pune is that BSNL does not have 7.2 to sell, and they have no clue when it will be available. And i do not want to be stuck with 3.6.So basically i am looking for a modem which will guarantee me that it will work here, and is 7.2 as well. And its been too much of hassle for me so far.

@Ganesh177I am also from maharashtra and i am using Huawei E1750. But in last 3 months of my usage, i have never come across any problem in the modem.
